දිවයින පුරා පිහිටි ජනාධිපති මන්දිරවල පිටස්තර පුද්ගලයන් නවාතැන් ගෙන ඇති බවට පළවන වාර්තා සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම අසත්ය බව රජය අවධාරණය කරයි.
2025 වර්ෂයේදී මෙම මන්දිරවල පුද්ගලයන් 3,089 දෙනෙකු නවාතැන් ගෙන ඇති බවට පළ වූ මාධ්ය වාර්තා සම්බන්ධයෙන් පැහැදිලි කිරීමක් කරමින් ජනාධිපති මාධ්ය ඒකකය සඳහන් කරන්නේ, අදාළ කාලසීමාව තුළ ජනාධිපති මන්දිර පරිශ්රවල පිහිටි වෙනත් ගොඩනැගිලිවල ආරක්ෂක අංශ, මාධ්ය සහ අනෙකුත් අංශවල නිලධාරීන් රාජකාරීමය අවශ්යතා වෙනුවෙන් පමණක් රැඳී සිට ඇති බවයි.
එම නිලධාරීන් කිසිවෙකු ජනාධිපතිවරයා පරිහරණය කරන ප්රධාන මන්දිර ගොඩනැගිලි තුළ නවාතැන් ගෙන නොමැති බවත්, ජනාධිපති මන්දිරවල පිටස්තරයන් රැඳී සිටින බවට පළවන පුවත් ජනතාව නොමග යවන සුළු බවත් රජය පෙන්වා දෙයි.
කෙසේ වෙතත්, ජාතික විගණන කාර්යාලයේ නවතම වාර්තාවක අනුව සති අන්ත ලංකාදීප පුවත්පත වාර්තා කර ඇත්තේ කොළඹ කොටුව, මහනුවර, අනුරාධපුරය, කතරගම, මහියංගණය, නුවරඑළිය සහ බෙන්තොට යන ප්රදේශවල පිහිටි ජනාධිපති මන්දිර හතක නඩත්තු කටයුතු වෙනුවෙන් පසුගිය වසරේදී පමණක් රුපියල් තුන් කෝටි තිස් ලක්ෂයකට (මිලියන 33.5) අධික මුදලක් වැය කර ඇති බවයි.
විශේෂත්වය වන්නේ මෙම මන්දිර හත තුළම පසුගිය වසරේදී පවත්වා ඇත්තේ රැස්වීම් තුනක් පමණක් වීමයි.
විශේෂයෙන්ම කතරගම, මහියංගණය සහ බෙන්තොට යන ප්රදේශවල පිහිටි මන්දිරවල කිසිදු රැස්වීමක් පවත්වා නොමැති පසුබිමක, ඒවායේ උපයෝගිතා ගාස්තු වෙනුවෙන් රුපියල් ලක්ෂ විස්සකට ආසන්න මුදලක් වැය වී තිබේ. විගණන වාර්තාවට අනුව පසුගිය වසර නවයක කාලය තුළ මෙම මන්දිර නඩත්තු කිරීම සහ අලුත්වැඩියා කටයුතු වෙනුවෙන් රජය රුපියල් කෝටි 35කට අධික මහජන මුදලක් වැය කර ඇත.
වත්මන් ජනාධිපතිවරයා මෙම මන්දිර සිය පෞද්ගලික පරිහරණය සඳහා යොදා නොගැනීමට ප්රතිපත්තීමය තීරණයක් ගෙන ඇති අතර, ඒ අනුව කොළඹ කොටුව ජනාධිපති මන්දිරය රාජ්යතාන්ත්රික හමුවීම් සඳහාත්, මහනුවර මන්දිරය සංස්කෘතික කටයුතු සඳහාත් පමණක් සීමා කර තිබේ.
මෙම තත්ත්වය පිළිබඳව අදහස් දක්වමින් අග්රාමාත්ය ආචාර්ය හරිනි අමරසූරිය මහත්මිය සඳහන් කළේ, ඉදිරිපත් වී ඇති කමිටු නිර්දේශයන්ට අනුව කොළඹ කොටුව සහ මහනුවර මන්දිර හැර සෙසු සියලුම ජනාධිපති මන්දිර ඉදිරියේදී රටට ආදායම් උපයන ඵලදායී ආර්ථික ව්යාපෘති සඳහා යෙදවීමට රජය පියවර ගන්නා බවයි. එමගින් මහජන මුදල් අවභාවිතය වැළැක්වීම රජයේ මූලික අරමුණ වී තිබේ.
Government Denies Claims of Unauthorized Occupancy in Presidential Residences
The Sri Lankan government has categorically dismissed reports alleging that individuals are occupying presidential mansions across the country. Clarifying the situation regarding reports that claimed 3,089 people used these residences in 2025, the Presidential Media Unit emphasized that only officials from security, media, and other departments, tasked with necessary duties, have been present at the various presidential facilities during that timeframe.
It was further clarified that no officials are staying in the main presidential residence utilized by the President. The government pointed out that claims about unauthorized occupancy in these mansions mislead the public.
According to the latest report from the National Audit Office, the Sunday Lankadeepa newspaper noted that over Rs. 330 million (approximately $1.7 million) was spent last year solely for the maintenance of seven presidential residences located in Colombo, Kandy, Anuradhapura, Kataragama, Mahiyangana, Nuwara Eliya, and Bentota.
Remarkably, only three meetings were held in these residences over the past year. Despite the absence of any events at the facilities in Kataragama, Mahiyangana, and Bentota, expenditures for their maintenance approached Rs. 20 million. The audit report revealed that the total government expenditure for maintaining and renovating these mansions exceeded Rs. 3.5 billion last year.
The current President has made a policy decision not to utilize these residences for personal use. Accordingly, the Colombo Kotuwa Presidential Mansion is restricted to state meetings, while the Kandy residence is designated only for cultural activities.
Commenting on this situation, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated that the government plans to repurpose all presidential residences, excluding the Colombo Kotuwa and Kandy locations, for profitable economic projects that will generate revenue for the country. The primary goal of this initiative is to prevent any misuse of public funds.
