මීගමුව බන්ධනාගාරයේ ඇති වූ ප්‍රචණ්ඩකාරී තත්ත්වය පාලනය කිරීම සඳහා වෙඩි තැබීම සිදුකළ බන්ධනාගාර නිලධාරියා වහාම ක්‍රියාත්මක වන පරිදි මහනුවර, පල්ලෙකැලේ බන්ධනාගාරය වෙත තාවකාලිකව මාරු කර තිබේ.

බන්ධනාගාර මාධ්‍ය ප්‍රකාශක සහ බන්ධනාගාර කොමසාරිස් ඒ.සී. ගජනායක මහතා මෙම ස්ථාන මාරුව තහවුරු කළේය.

පසුගිය ජූලි 06 වැනිදා මීගමුව බන්ධනාගාරයේ ඇති වූ නොසන්සුන්කාරී වාතාවරණය අතරතුර, රැඳවියන් පිරිසක් බන්ධනාගාරයේ අවසන් ලී දොරටුව ද කඩාගෙන පලායාමට උත්සාහ කර අවස්ථාවේදී තත්ත්වය පාලනය කිරීම සඳහා අදාළ නිලධාරියා විසින් වෙඩි තැබීම සිදු කර ඇත.

බන්ධනාගාර බලධාරීන් පවසන පරිදි, රැඳවියන් පිරිසක් බන්ධනාගාර නිලධාරීන් ඉලක්ක කර ගනිමින් මාරාන්තික ප්‍රහාරයක් එල්ල කර ඇති අතර, සෙසු නිලධාරීන්ගේ ජීවිත ආරක්ෂා කර ගැනීම සහ පලායාමට තැත් කළ රැඳවියන් වැළැක්වීම සඳහා මෙම වෙඩි තැබීම සිදු කර ඇති බව මූලික විමර්ශනවලදී අනාවරණය වී ඇත.

කෙසේ වෙතත්, මෙම වෙඩි තැබීම බන්ධනාගාර රෙගුලාසිවලට අනුකූලව සිදු වූවක් ද නැතහොත් එහිදී බලය අනිසි ලෙස භාවිත කිරීමක් සිදුව තිබේ ද යන්න පිළිබඳව මේ වන විට විශේෂ පරීක්ෂණයක් ආරම්භ කර තිබේ.

මීගමුව බන්ධනාගාරයේ ඇති වූ මෙම ප්‍රචණ්ඩකාරී සිදුවීම් සහ ඉන් අනතුරුව හටගත් ගැටුම් හේතුවෙන් බන්ධනාගාර නිලධාරීන් 10 දෙනෙකු ඇතුළුව පුද්ගලයින් 31 දෙනෙකු ජීවිතක්ෂයට පත්ව ඇත.

Prison Officer Transferred Following Shooting Incident at Negombo Jail

In a decisive move following a shooting incident aimed at restoring order at the Negombo prison, a prison officer has been temporarily reassigned to the Mahanuwara, Palekelle prison. This action comes as a direct response to the recent violent outbreak within the facility.

The transfer has been confirmed by A.C. Gajanayake, the prison media spokesman and commissioner. The emergency reassignment was enacted swiftly amid escalating tensions in the facility on July 6, when inmates attempted a mass breakout by forcefully breaching the last wooden door.

Reports indicate that during this chaotic episode, the involved officer discharged his weapon in an effort to regain control of the situation as a group of prisoners launched a deadly assault targeting prison staff. Initial investigations suggest that the shooting was conducted to protect the lives of other officers and prevent the escape of inmates.

However, questions have emerged regarding the adherence to prison regulations, as officials have initiated a special investigation to determine whether the use of force was justified under the circumstances or if there was any misuse of power.

The violent incidents at Negombo prison, along with subsequent clashes, have resulted in tragic fatalities, claiming the lives of 31 individuals, including 10 prison officials.
