මාදම්පේ - පනිරෙන්ඩාව හන්දියේ සිට බිංගිරිය - වතුවත්ත දක්වා දිවෙන මාර්ගය වසර 20ක පමණ කාලයක සිට ප්රතිසංස්කරණය කර නොමැති බව පවසමින් ප්රදේශවාසීන් පිරිසක් විරෝධතාවයක නිරත වූහ.
මෙම විරෝධතාවය අතරතුර ප්රාදේශීය සභා මන්ත්රීවරයෙකු එම ස්ථානයට පැමිණීමත් සමඟ දැඩි උණුසුම් තත්ත්වයක් හටගෙන තිබේ.
විරෝධතාකරුවන් පෙන්වා දෙන්නේ මෙම අතුරු මාර්ගය දෙපස කර්මාන්තශාලා රැසක් පිහිටා ඇති අතර, දිනකට වාහන 300කට අධික ප්රමාණයක් මෙම මාර්ගය භාවිතා කරන බවයි.
මාර්ගය අතිශයින් අබලන් වී ඇති බැවින් වාහනයකින් තබා පයින් පවා ගමන් කිරීමට නොහැකි තත්ත්වයක් උදාවී ඇති බව ඔවුහු පවසති. බිංගිරිය සහ උඩුබද්දාව ප්රාදේශීය සභා දෙක වෙන් කරන සීමාව මෙම මාර්ගය මැදින් වැටී තිබීම හේතුවෙන්, සභා දෙකම මාර්ගයේ වගකීම පැහැර හරින බවට ද ජනතාව චෝදනා කරති.
විරෝධතාවය අතරතුර එම ස්ථානයට බිංගිරිය ප්රාදේශීය සභාවේ ජාතික ජන බලවේගය මන්ත්රීවරයෙකු පැමිණි අතර, එහිදී ඔහු සහ විරෝධතාකරුවන් අතර දැඩි වාග් විවාදයක් සහ උණුසුම් තත්ත්වයක් ඇති විය.
විරෝධතාකරුවන් විසින් එම මාර්ගයේ ගමන් කිරීමට පැමිණි වාහන කිහිපයක් ද ආපසු හරවා යැවීමට පියවර ගෙන තිබුණි.
පසුව බිංගිරිය පොලිසියේ නිලධාරීන් මැදිහත් වී තත්ත්වය පාලනය කිරීමට කටයුතු කළහ.
බිංගිරිය සහ උඩුබද්දාව ප්රාදේශීය සභාවල සභාපතිවරුන් කැඳවා මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් සාකච්ඡාවක් ලබා දීමට පොලිසිය පොරොන්දු වීමෙන් අනතුරුව විරෝධතාවය අවසන් කෙරිණි.
Protests Erupt Over Neglected Road Conditions in Madampe
Residents of Madampe demonstrated today, expressing their frustration over the poor state of the road from Panirendawa Junction to Bingiriya - Wathuwatta, which they claim has not seen any renovation in nearly 20 years. The protest intensified when a local council member arrived on the scene.
Protesters highlighted that the route, flanked by numerous factories, accommodates over 300 vehicles daily. They assert that the severe deterioration of the road has made it nearly impossible to travel by vehicle, with some even resorting to walking in difficult conditions.
They pointed out that this road serves as a boundary between the Bingiriya and Udupussellawa local councils, leading to a lack of accountability for its maintenance as both councils shift responsibility away from the issues at hand.
The situation escalated when a member of the National People's Power from the Bingiriya local council met with protesters, resulting in heated exchanges and heightened tensions.
As the situation unfolded, demonstrators took action by turning back several vehicles attempting to use the neglected road.
Intervention from Bingiriya police helped to restore order, and the protest concluded after the police committed to facilitating discussions between the chairpersons of the Bingiriya and Udupussellawa councils to address the ongoing issues.
