බේරුවල නගර සභාවේ මාසික සභා වාරයේදී සභාපතිවරයා ඉදිරිපත් කළ යෝජනාවක් වැඩි ඡන්දයෙන් පරාජයට පත්වීමත් සමඟ සභාව තුළ දැඩි උණුසුම් තත්ත්වයක් හටගෙන තිබේ.
මෙම නොසන්සුන්කාරී වාතාවරණය මධ්යයේ විපක්ෂ මන්ත්රීවරයකු ඉවත් කිරීමට පොලිසිය කැඳවීමට සභාපතිවරයා පියවර ගත්තද, විපක්ෂයේ දැඩි විරෝධය හමුවේ පොලිස් නිලධාරීන්ට සභා ගර්භයෙන් පිටව යාමට සිදු විය.
සභාපති මොහොමඩ් මාසාහිම් මහතා සහ සමගි ජන බලවේගයේ මන්ත්රී එම්.එන්.එම්. ඉර්ෂාද් මහතා අතර ඇති වූ වාචික සංවාදයක් දුරදිග යාම හේතුවෙන් සභාවේ කටයුතු විනාඩි 20කට අත්හිටුවීමට මුලින් පියවර ගැනුණි.
අනතුරුව සභාපතිවරයා විසින් ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලද සංවර්ධන යෝජනාවකට අදාළව ඡන්ද විමසීමක් පැවැත්වූ අතර, එහිදී එම යෝජනාව පරාජයට පත් විය.
යෝජනාව පරාජයට පත්වීමෙන් පසු, සභාපතිවරයා විසින් එම්.එන්.එම්. ඉර්ෂාද් මන්ත්රීවරයා සභා ගර්භයෙන් ඉවත් කරන ලෙස නියෝග කරනු ලැබීය. ඒ අනුව පොලිස් නිලධාරීන් හය දෙනෙකු සභා ගර්භයට පැමිණි නමුත්, උප සභාපතිවරයා ඇතුළු විපක්ෂ මන්ත්රීවරුන් ඊට දැඩි ලෙස විරෝධය පළ කළහ.
මන්ත්රීවරුන්ගේ විරෝධය හමුවේ පොලිස් නිලධාරීන් සභා පරිශ්රයෙන් පිටව ගිය අතර, පසුව අදාළ මන්ත්රීවරයා සභාපතිවරයාගෙන් සමාව අයැදීමෙන් අනතුරුව සභාවේ කටයුතු යථා තත්ත්වයට පත් විය.
Disruption at Beruwala Municipal Council Following Failed Development Proposal
A heated atmosphere erupted during the monthly meeting of the Beruwala Municipal Council after the chairman's proposal was decisively defeated in a vote. The failure of this proposal significantly escalated tensions within the council.
In response to the unrest, the chairman, Mohamed Masahim, took the step to summon police to remove an opposition council member. However, this request was challenged by a strong protest from opposition members, forcing police officers to exit the council premises.
An escalating verbal exchange between Chairman Masahim and opposition council member M.N.M. Irshad prompted a temporary suspension of council proceedings for 20 minutes.
Following the suspension, a vote was held concerning the development proposal presented by the chairman, which ultimately faced defeat.
After the proposal's failure, the chairman ordered the removal of Irshad from the council chamber. Although six police officers arrived to enforce this order, they faced intense opposition from opposition members, including the deputy chairman.
Ultimately, amid the ongoing protests from council members, the police officers withdrew from the council premises. Subsequently, after Irshad sought forgiveness from the chairman, normal council operations resumed.
