බාල හෘද ස්ට්‍රින්ට් සහ ඇන්ජොග්‍රෑම් කැතීටර් නිසා රෝගීන් මරණ ගැන CID විමර්ශනයක්

 පසුගිය වසර දෙකක කාලය තුළ රජයේ රෝහල් වෙත සැපයූ බාල තත්ත්වයේ හෘද ස්ට්‍රින්ට් (Stents) සහ ඇන්ජොග්‍රෑම් කැතීටර් (Catheters) භාවිතය නිසා රෝගීන්ට සිදුවූ බරපතළ සංකූලතා සහ මරණ සම්බන්ධයෙන් අපරාධ පරීක්ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව විමර්ශනයක් ආරම්භ කර තිබේ.

වෛද්‍ය හා සිවිල් අයිතිවාසිකම් පිළිබඳ වෛද්‍යවරුන්ගේ වෘත්තීය සමිති සන්ධානයේ සභාපති විශේෂඥ වෛද්‍ය චමල් සංජීව මහතා කළ පැමිණිල්ලකට අනුව මෙම පියවර ගෙන ඇත.

මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් කරුණු විමසමින් අපරාධ පරීක්ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ අධ්‍යක්ෂ ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ පොලිස් අධිකාරී ශානි අබේසේකර මහතා විසින් සෞඛ්‍ය අමාත්‍යාංශයේ ලේකම්වරයා වෙත ලිඛිතව දැනුම් දීමක් සිදු කර තිබේ.

අදාළ වෛද්‍ය උපකරණ භාවිතය නිසා රෝගීන් මියයෑම සහ විවිධ අතුරු ආබාධවලට ලක්වීම පිළිබඳව වෛද්‍ය චමල් සංජීව මහතා මීට පෙර කරුණු අනාවරණය කර තිබුණි.

ඒ අනුව, පසුගිය ජුනි මාසයේ සිට මෙම බාල තත්ත්වයේ උපකරණ භාවිතය අත්හිටුවීමට වෛද්‍ය සැපයුම් අංශය සහ ඖෂධ නියාමන අධිකාරිය පියවර ගෙන තිබුණ ද, ඒවා ආනයනය කිරීමේදී සිදුවූ දූෂණ සහ අක්‍රමිකතා පිළිබඳව මෙතෙක් නිසි පරීක්ෂණයක් සිදුව නොතිබුණි.

මෙම වංචනික ක්‍රියාවට වගකිව යුතු පුද්ගලයන් සහ සමාගම් හඳුනාගෙන ඔවුන්ට එරෙහිව නීතිය ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීම සඳහා අවශ්‍ය මූලික විමර්ශන වාර්තාවක් කඩිනමින් ලබා දෙන ලෙස CID අධ්‍යක්ෂවරයා සෞඛ්‍ය ලේකම්වරයාගෙන් ඉල්ලා ඇත.

මෙම විමර්ශනය හරහා වංචාවට සම්බන්ධ පිරිස් අධිකරණය හමුවට පමුණුවනු ඇතැයි තමන් බලාපොරොත්තු වන බව විශේෂඥ වෛද්‍ය චමල් සංජීව මහතා සඳහන් කළේය.

Investigation Launched into Use of Substandard Medical Equipment in Sri Lankan Hospitals

The Department of Criminal Investigations has initiated an inquiry into serious complications and fatalities experienced by patients due to the use of substandard heart stents and angiogram catheters supplied to government hospitals over the past two years.

This action follows a formal complaint lodged by Dr. Chamath Sanjeewa, the president of the medical professionals' trade union concerning civil rights in healthcare.

In connection with this matter, Senior Police Officer Shani Abeysekera, director of the Criminal Investigations Department, has formally notified the Secretary of the Health Ministry in writing to gather pertinent information.

Previously, Dr. Sanjeewa had disclosed concerns regarding patient deaths and various adverse effects linked to the use of these medical devices.

Despite measures taken by the medical supply division and the National Medicines Regulatory Authority to halt the use of these defective instruments since last June, there has yet to be a thorough investigation into the corruption and irregularities that occurred during the importation process.

The CID director has requested that the Health Secretary expedite the delivery of a preliminary investigation report to identify those individuals and companies responsible for this fraudulent operation, allowing legal action to be pursued against them.

Dr. Sanjeewa expressed his hope that the investigation would bring those involved in the fraud before the courts.
