දික්ඔය මැණික්වත්ත ප්‍රදේශයේ නිවසක බාහිර මඩුවක් ආසන්නයට අද (12) අලුයම හඳුන් දිවියකු පැමිණීමත් සමඟ ප්‍රදේශවාසීන් අතර දැඩි නොසන්සුන්තාවක් හටගෙන තිබේ.

උදෑසන 6.00ට පමණ එම ස්ථානයට පැමිණ ඇති හඳුන් දිවියා, මීට පෙර වගා කටයුතු සිදුකර පසුව අතහැර දමා තිබූ භූමියක වැවී තිබූ රම්පේ පඳුරු සහ තණකොළ අතර සැඟවී සිට ඇත.

දීර්ඝ වේලාවක් කිසිදු චලනයකින් තොරව එම ස්ථානයේ රැඳී සිටීම හේතුවෙන් නිවැසියන් මෙන්ම අවට ප්‍රදේශවාසීන්ද බියට පත්ව ඇති අතර, පසුව සිද්ධිය සැලවීමත් සමඟ විශාල පිරිසක් එම ස්ථානයට රැස්වී හඳුන් දිවියා එළවා දැමීමට උත්සාහ කර තිබේ.

ජනතාව විශාල වශයෙන් රැස්වීමත් සමඟ තත්ත්වය පාලනය කිරීම සඳහා හැටන් පොලිසියේ නිලධාරීන්ද එම ස්ථානයට පැමිණ ඇත.

එහිදී රැස්ව සිටි ජනතාවගේ ශබ්ද හේතුවෙන් බියට පත්වූ හඳුන් දිවියා පෙරවරු 11.00ට පමණ එම ස්ථානයෙන් පිටවී නිවස ආසන්නයේ පිහිටි ඇළ මාර්ගය දෙසට ගමන් කරනු දක්නට ලැබිණි.

වනජීවී සත්ත්වයකු ජනාවාස ආසන්නයට පැමිණි අවස්ථාවක එය වටකරමින් හෝ ශබ්ද කරමින් පලවා හැරීමට උත්සාහ කිරීමෙන් සත්ත්වයා කලබල වී මිනිසුන්ට පහරදීමේ අවදානමක් පවතින බැවින්, මෙවැනි අවස්ථාවල ජනතාව එම ස්ථානයෙන් ඉවත්ව ආරක්ෂිත දුරකින් සිටීම වැදගත් බව වනජීවී නිලධාරීහු පෙන්වා දෙති.

Residents Alarmed as Wild Elephant Approaches Dikkola

An early morning sighting of a wild elephant near a house in the Dikkola Menikwatta area has triggered significant unease among local residents today (12th). The incident unfolded around 6:00 AM when the elephant appeared close to a property where abandoned agricultural land had once flourished.

The elephant was discovered lurking among rice plants and tall grass, hidden in a flooded area of the land, triggering alarm among the nearby community who had not witnessed any movement from the animal for an extended period.

As news of the elephant spread, concerned residents gathered, hoping to coax the creature out safely. The swelling crowd raised apprehensions about the situation, prompting local officers from the Hettipola police to arrive in an effort to manage the gathering.

However, the escalating noise from the crowd around 11:00 AM startled the elephant, which then made its way towards a marshy area adjacent to nearby homes.

Officials from the wildlife department have advised the public to maintain a safe distance during such encounters, emphasizing the dangers posed by the animal if it feels threatened or cornered.

Local residents expressed a need for authorities to implement urgent measures to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts, ensuring safety for both communities and wildlife alike in the Dikkola region.
