මෙම පාලම හරහා ගමන් කරන පනස් අක්කර ප්‍රදේශයේ පවුල් 120කට වැඩි සංඛ්‍යාවකට අයත් පුද්ගලයන් 800කට අධික පිරිසක් දෛනිකව තම අවශ්‍යතා සපුරා ගැනීමට ගමන් කරන බවත්, පාලමේ වත්මන් තත්ත්වය හේතුවෙන් ඔවුන්ගේ ජීවිත දැඩි අවදානමකට ලක්ව ඇති බවත් ජනතාව පෙන්වා දෙති.

පසුගිය දිත්වා සුළි කුණාටුවේදී පාලමට අර්ධ වශයෙන් හානි සිදුවී තිබූ අතර, එම තත්ත්වය පිළිබඳව අවස්ථා කිහිපයකදීම ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කාර්යාලය ඇතුළු අදාළ බලධාරීන් දැනුවත් කළද මෙතෙක් ස්ථිර විසඳුමක් ලබාදී නොමැති බවට ප්‍රදේශවාසීහු චෝදනා කරති.

Due to damage sustained during the recent Dithwa tropical storm, the bridge has been compromised, rendering it hazardous for daily use. Despite multiple notifications to relevant authorities, including the local secretary’s office, residents express frustration over the lack of effective solutions to address the ongoing issues.

Continuous heavy rainfall over the past three days has exacerbated the situation, with parts of the bridge collapsing further, leading to severe disruptions in transportation. Locals warn that traveling across the bridge has become perilous, particularly during rainy conditions when the risk of flooding increases.

The unsafe state of the bridge has forced some residents to construct makeshift paths to navigate their daily lives. However, these temporary routes are causing vibrations that further damage the structure, revealing exposed rebar and crumbling concrete that raises alarms among the community.

Vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, schoolchildren, the elderly, and those in need of urgent medical attention, are at heightened risk. Residents point out the alarming challenges they face, such as the inability to transport patients to hospitals promptly or to carry deceased individuals safely during funerals, highlighting a serious humanitarian crisis.

This precarious situation not only affects emergency responders but also complicates daily commuting for workers and students, causing considerable hardship across the community.

Residents are calling for immediate intervention from authorities to assess the bridge technically and ensure the safety of the public before a tragic accident occurs. They stress the urgency for actions to be taken swiftly, as any further delays might lead to loss of life.

If a complete reconstruction of the bridge is anticipated to take time, locals insist that authorities provide a safe temporary route or alternative transportation facilities to maintain daily mobility for the residents.

Despite several notifications sent to the concerned agencies, the ongoing inaction has left the community feeling anxious. They urge all responsible institutions to act promptly to safeguard the lives and daily activities of the people in the 50-acre area against further rain or potential accidents.
