අදාළ ගංගා ද්‍රෝණිවල ජල මාපකවල දත්ත සහ වර්ෂාපතන තත්ත්වය විශ්ලේෂණය කරමින් එම දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ ජලවිද්‍යා හා ආපදා කළමනාකරණ අංශය විසින් ‘ඇම්බර්’ පැහැති ගංවතුර පූර්ව අනතුරු ඇඟවීමේ නිවේදන නිකුත් කර තිබේ.

Risk of Minor Flooding in Low-Lying Areas Along Nilwala and Gin Rivers

The Department of Irrigation has issued a warning of a potential minor flooding situation in several low-lying areas along the Nilwala and Gin Rivers within the next 24 hours, coinciding with the ongoing monsoon rains.

In response to the analysis of rainfall patterns and hydrological data from the river gauging stations, the department's Hydrology and Disaster Management Division has released amber alerts regarding the flood risk.

The warning specifically applies to the low-lying regions within the catchment areas of the Nilwala River in the divisional secretariats of Pasgoda, Kotapola, Pitabeddara, Akurassa, Athuraliya, Malimbada, Kamburupitiya, and Thihagoda.

Furthermore, the flood advisory extends to similarly vulnerable areas along the Gin River, particularly within the Divisional Secretariats of Nagoda, Baddegama, and Walawita-Divithura.

In light of this situation, residents in the mentioned areas, as well as motorists passing through, are urged to exercise caution and take necessary precautions, as emphasized by the Department of Irrigation.

The department also reiterated the importance of implementing immediate measures to address any potential emergency situations that may arise in connection with these warnings.
