රට පුරා ‘මිතුරි’ පෙති හිගයක්.. කාන්තාවන් විශාල අර්බුදයක..

 මෙරට කාන්තාවන් විසින් පවුල් සැලසුම් කටයුතු සඳහා බහුලව භාවිත කරනු ලබන වඩාත් ප්‍රචලිත උපත් පාලන පෙති වර්ගයක් වන ‘මිතුරි’ පෙතිවල දැඩි හිඟයක් රට පුරා මතුව ඇතැයි ශ්‍රී ලංකා පවුල් සංවිධාන සංගමය පවසයි.

ජාතික ඖෂධ නියාමන අධිකාරියේ මිල පාලන ප්‍රතිපත්තිය හේතුවෙන් මෙම ගැටලුකාරී තත්ත්වය උද්ගතව ඇති අතර, අදාළ ඖෂධයේ නව තොග මෙරටට ගෙන්වා බෙදාහැරීමට තවත් සති තුනක පමණ කාලයක් ගතවනු ඇතැයි එම සංගමය සඳහන් කරයි.

දශක ගණනාවක සිට ශ්‍රී ලංකා පවුල් සංවිධාන සංගමය මඟින් බෙදාහරිනු ලබන මෙම උපත් පාලන පෙති මේ වන විට රජයේ රෝහල් මෙන්ම පෞද්ගලික ඖෂධසැල් යන දෙඅංශයෙන්ම ලබාගැනීමට නොහැකි තත්ත්වයක් උද්ගතව තිබේ.

මේ හේතුවෙන් කාන්තාවන් දැඩි අපහසුතාවට පත්ව ඇති බවත්, වෙළඳපොළේ පවතින සෙසු ආදේශක ඖෂධවල ද හිඟයක් පවතින අතර ඒවා රුපියල් 2,500 සිට 6,000 දක්වා වූ අධික මිල ගණන් යටතේ අලෙවි වන බවත් වෛද්‍ය හා සිවිල් අයිතිවාසිකම් පිළිබඳ වෛද්‍යවරුන්ගේ වෘත්තීය සමිති සන්ධානයේ සභාපති, විශේෂඥ වෛද්‍ය චමල් සංජීව මහතා පෙන්වා දෙයි.

කාන්තා හෝමෝන වර්ග දෙකක් (එතිනයිල් එස්ට්‍රඩියෝල් 0.03mg සහ ලෙවොනෝජෙස්ට්‍රල් 0.15mg) අවම මාත්‍රාවකින් අඩංගු සංයුක්ත මුඛ පවුල් සැලසුම් පෙත්තක් (OCP) වන ‘මිතුරි’, නිවැරදිව හා අඛණ්ඩව භාවිත කළහොත් ගැබ් ගැනීම් වැළැක්වීමේ සියයට 99.9ක ඉහළ සාර්ථකත්වයක් මෙන්ම අවම අතුරු ආබාධ සහිත ඖෂධයක් ලෙස සැලකේ.

එමෙන්ම, උපත් පාලනයට අමතරව හෝමෝන අසමතුලිතතාවන්ගෙන් පෙළෙන කාන්තාවන් සහ ආර්තවහරණය ආශ්‍රිත රෝග ලක්ෂණ සහිත කාන්තාවන් සඳහා ද විශේෂඥ වෛද්‍යවරුන් විසින් මෙම ඖෂධය නිර්දේශ කරනු ලබයි.

පවුල් සැලසුම් කටයුතුවලට මෙන්ම කාන්තා සෞඛ්‍යයට සෘජුව බලපාන මෙම ගැටලුව කඩිනමින් නිරාකරණය කිරීම සඳහා සෞඛ්‍ය අමාත්‍යාංශය සහ ජාතික ඖෂධ නියාමන අධිකාරිය කඩිනමින් මැදිහත් විය යුතු බව විශේෂඥ වෛද්‍ය චමල් සංජීව මහතා වැඩිදුරටත් අවධාරණය කරයි.

Severe Shortage of 'Mithuri' Contraceptive Pills Hits Sri Lanka

A significant shortage of the 'Mithuri' contraceptive pills, a widely used family planning method in Sri Lanka, has come to light, according to the Sri Lankan Federation of Family Planning Organizations. Women across the country are facing serious difficulties due to this alarming scarcity.

The crisis has been attributed to price control policies instituted by the National Medicines Regulatory Authority. The Federation has indicated that it will take approximately three more weeks for new stocks of the affected medication to arrive and be distributed throughout the nation.

For decades, the 'Mithuri' contraceptive pills have been distributed by the Federation, but currently, they are unavailable in both government hospitals and private pharmacies alike, leading to a significant access issue.

As a result, women are experiencing considerable hardships, with other alternative medications also in short supply. Medical professionals note that these substitutes are being sold at exorbitant prices ranging from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 6,000. Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa, president of the Association of Medical and Civil Rights, highlighted this pressing issue.

The 'Mithuri' pill is a combination oral contraceptive containing low doses of two hormones (Ethinyl Estradiol 0.03mg and Levonorgestrel 0.15mg). When used correctly and consistently, it is known for its effectiveness in preventing pregnancies, boasting a success rate of over 99.9% along with minimal side effects.

Additionally, this medication is recommended not only for family planning but also for women experiencing hormonal imbalances and symptoms related to dysmenorrhea, as indicated by specialized physicians.

This situation, which directly impacts family planning efforts and women's health, necessitates immediate intervention from the Ministry of Health and the National Medicines Regulatory Authority, Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa emphasized further.
