Intense rainfall in the upper catchment areas of the Mahaweli River has triggered serious concerns for residents in low-lying regions within the Pasbage Korala Divisional Secretariat. The Department of Irrigation has issued a 'Red' alert, signaling a heightened danger of catastrophic flooding.

The combination of ongoing heavy precipitation and unceasing water flow has led to rapidly rising water levels, necessitating an upgrade from previous alerts to the current 'Red' status.

Officials warn that communities living near the Mahaweli River in Pasbage Korala must take urgent precautions to safeguard their lives and property. L.S. Suriyabandara, the Director of Irrigation (Hydrology and Disaster Management), emphasizes the importance of readiness, urging residents to evacuate to safer locations if necessary.

Moreover, drivers using roads in affected areas are advised to exercise heightened caution. All disaster management agencies in the region have been instructed to implement immediate relief and safety measures, given the grave risks posed by the current weather conditions.
