 දිවයිනේ ප්‍රදේශ කිහිපයකට ඇදහැලෙන අධික වර්ෂාපතනය හේතුවෙන් මහනුවර දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කොට්ඨාසයක හදිසි ජල ගැලීම් තත්ත්වයක් වාර්තා වන බව ආපදා කළමනාකරණ මධ්‍යස්ථානය පවසයි.

එම මධ්‍යස්ථානයේ අධ්‍යක්ෂ ප්‍රදීප් කොඩිප්පිලි මහතා සඳහන් කළේ, පවතින ජල ගැලීම් හමුවේ පවුල් 8කට අයත් පුද්ගලයින් 25 දෙනෙකු ආපදාවට ලක්ව ඇති බවයි.

විපතට පත් එම පිරිස මේ වන විට නාවලපිටිය බව්වාගම විද්‍යාලයේ තාවකාලිකව රඳවා තැබීමට පියවර ගෙන ඇති අතර, ඔවුන් වෙනුවෙන් අවශ්‍ය සහන සැලසීමේ වැඩපිළිවෙළක්ද මේ වන විටත් ක්‍රියාත්මක කර තිබේ.

පසුගිය පැය කිහිපය තුළ දිවයිනේ වැඩිම වර්ෂාපතනය කළුතර දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ වලල්ලාවිට ප්‍රදේශයෙන් වාර්තා වී ඇති අතර, එම අගය මිලිමීටර් 119 කි.

ඊට අමතරව හංවැල්ල, ඇල්පිටිය, නෙළුව, දුන්හින්න, වතුරවිල්ල සහ නාඋල යන ප්‍රදේශවලටද මිලිමීටර් 50ත් 119ත් අතර සැලකිය යුතු වර්ෂාපතනයක් ලැබී ඇති බව වාර්තා වේ.

මේ අතර, පවතින එල් නිනෝ කාලගුණික තත්ත්වයේ බලපෑම හේතුවෙන් දිවයිනේ දිස්ත්‍රික්ක 8ක පවුල් 49,344කට අයත් පුද්ගලයින් 161,451 දෙනෙකු දැඩි වියළි කාලගුණයෙන් පීඩාවට පත්ව සිටින බවද අධ්‍යක්ෂවරයා අනාවරණය කළේය.

එක් පසෙකින් පවතින වියළි කාලගුණය මෙන්ම අනෙක් පසින් ඇති විය හැකි අධික වර්ෂාව සහ ආපදා තත්ත්වයන් යන දෙකටම මුහුණදීමට ආපදා කළමනාකරණ මධ්‍යස්ථානය පූර්ණ සූදානමින් පසුවන බව ඒ මහතා සඳහන් කළේය.

එබැවින් කාලගුණ විද්‍යා දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව නිකුත් කරන නිවේදන පිළිබඳව නිරන්තර විමසිල්ලෙන් පසුවන ලෙසත්, කඳුකර බෑවුම්වල ජීවත්වන ජනතාව නායයෑම් පූර්ව ලක්ෂණ කෙරෙහි විශේෂ අවධානයක් යොමු කරන ලෙසත් ජනතාවගෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටියි.

Severe Rain Causes Flooding in Central Sri Lanka

Several regions across Sri Lanka are grappling with intense rainfall, leading to emergency flooding conditions in certain areas. The Disaster Management Centre has reported a significant impact in the Nuwara Eliya district, specifically within local administrative divisions.

According to the Centre's Director, Pradeep Kodippili, 25 individuals from eight families have been affected by the flooding. These residents are currently being sheltered at the Navalpitiya Bawwagama School, where relief efforts are underway to provide necessary aid.

Recent hours have brought the highest recorded rainfall in the Kalutara district, particularly in the Wallawita area, where totals reached 119 millimeters. Other regions such as Hanwella, Alpitiyaw, Neluwakanda, Dunhinda, Waturawila, and Naula reported rainfall ranging from 50 to 119 millimeters.

Simultaneously, the ongoing El Niño weather phenomenon has exacerbated conditions, severely affecting approximately 161,451 individuals from 49,344 families across eight districts, who are currently enduring extreme drought conditions.

Pradeep Kodippili emphasized that the Disaster Management Centre is fully prepared to address both current dry spells and the potential for heavy rains and emergencies. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and monitor updates from the Department of Meteorology closely.

Local communities, especially those living in mountainous areas, are advised to pay particular attention to signs of impending landslides. Should any emergency situations arise, the public is urged to report immediately to the Disaster Management Centre via the emergency hotline 117.
