 පසුගිය සැප්තැම්බර් 12 වැනිදා පැවති මහජන රැලියකදී හිටපු අමාත්‍ය විමල් වීරවංශ මහතා සිදුකළ ප්‍රකාශය මඟින් අධිකරණයට අපහාසයක් සිදුවී ඇත්දැයි විමර්ශනය කර වාර්තාවක් කැඳවන ලෙස කොළඹ ප්‍රධාන මහේස්ත්‍රාත් අසංග එස්. බෝදරගම මහතා අද පොලිස්පතිවරයාට නියෝග කළේය.

පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී නාමල් රාජපක්ෂ මහතා සම්බන්ධ නඩුවේදී අධිකරණය මඟින් ලබාදුන් නියෝගයක් විවේචනය කරමින් විමල් වීරවංශ මහතා අදාළ රැලියේදී සිදුකළ ප්‍රකාශය අධිකරණයට අපහාස කිරීමක් ද යන්න පිළිබඳව සලකා බලන ලෙස නියෝජ්‍ය සොලිසිටර් ජනරාල් ජනක බණ්ඩාර මහතා අධිකරණය හමුවේ කරුණු දක්වමින් ඉල්ලා සිටියේය.

එම ප්‍රකාශය අඩංගු වීඩියෝ දර්ශන සහිත සංයුක්ත තැටියක් අධිකරණයට ඉදිරිපත් කළ නියෝජ්‍ය සොලිසිටර් ජනරාල්වරයා, අධිකරණයේ ස්වාධීනත්වය හා ගෞරවය හෑල්ලු වන ආකාරයේ මෙවැනි ක්‍රියා වැළැක්වීම සඳහා නීතිමය පියවර ගත යුතු බවත්, ඒ සම්බන්ධයෙන් සුදුසු නියෝගයක් නිකුත් කරන ලෙසත් ඉල්ලා සිටින ලදී.

ඉදිරිපත් වූ කරුණු සලකා බැලූ ප්‍රධාන මහේස්ත්‍රාත්වරයා, මෙම සිදුවීම තමන් වෙත එල්ල වූ පෞද්ගලික කාරණයක් ලෙස නොව සමස්ත අධිකරණ පද්ධතියේම බලය හා ගෞරවය ආරක්ෂා කරගැනීමේ පොදු අවශ්‍යතාවක් ලෙස සලකා කටයුතු කළ යුතු බව අවධාරණය කළ අතර, ඒ අනුව සිද්ධිය සම්බන්ධයෙන් පුළුල් විමර්ශනයක් පවත්වා වාර්තාවක් ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලෙස පොලිස්පතිවරයාට නියෝග කළේය.

Investigatory Report Ordered into Vimal Weerawansa's Alleged Contempt of Court

In a significant development, the Colombo Chief Magistrate, Asanga S. Bodaragama, has instructed the police to investigate whether former Minister Vimal Weerawansa's remarks made during a public rally on September 12 constituted contempt of court.

Weerawansa's comments were directed at a court order linked to a case involving Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa. During the rally, he criticized the judiciary's directive, prompting Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara to request the court to assess if this amounted to an affront to judicial authority.

The Deputy Solicitor General presented video footage of Weerawansa's statements along with a comprehensive report to the court. He urged for legal actions to prevent such conduct, which he argued could undermine the independence and integrity of the judiciary.

Upon reviewing the evidence, the Chief Magistrate emphasized that the incident should not be perceived as a personal attack against him but rather as a broader concern regarding the protection of the judiciary's power and dignity. Consequently, he mandated the police to conduct a thorough inquiry and submit a detailed report on the matter.
