හැටන් කොටගල නගරයේ ගවමස් වෙළදසැල පවත්වාගෙන යන අය විසින් එහි බැහැර කරන අපද්‍රව්‍ය බැහැර කිරිමට ක්‍රමවේදයක් සකස් නොකර දිනපතා එකතුවන ගවමස් මස්කටු සහ එම වෙළදසැලේ ඉවතලන අනෙකුත් අපද්‍රව්‍ය එම වෙළදසැලේ සේවය කරන සේවකයින් දෙදෙනා විසින් ත්‍රී රෝද රථයක පටවා ගෙන ගොස් ඩෙවෝන් ඇළට මුදාහරින බවට ලද තොරතුරක් මත කොටගල සෞඛ්‍ය වෛද්‍ය නිළධාරි කේ.සුදර්ශන් මහතාගේ උපදෙස් පරිදි තම කාර්යාලයේ තවත් මහජන සෞඛ්‍ය පරික්ෂකවරුන් පිරිසක් සමග ගොස් එම සේවකයන් දෙදෙනා අපද්‍රව්‍ය ඩෙවෝන් ඇළට මුදාහරින අවස්ථාවේම අත්අඩංගුවට ගත් බවයි එම සෞඛ්‍ය වෛද්‍ය නිළධාරි කාර්යාලයේ පරිපාලන මහජන සෞඛ්‍ය පරික්ෂක දේවන් මහතා කියා සිටියේ.

සැකකරුවන් දෙදෙනා කොටගල රොසිටා ප්‍රදේශයෙන් අඩි 60 දුම්රිය යකඩ පාලම අසළින් මෙම අපද්‍රව්‍ය බැහැර කරන බවත්, එම ඇළ ගලා බසින ස්ථානයට ආසන්නයේම තේ වතු ක්‍රිස්ටස් ෆාම් ඇතුලු වතු ගණනාවකට පිවිසෙන මාර්ගයක් බවත්, එම මාර්ගයේ දිනපතා වතු කම්කරුවන් විශාල පිරිසක් ගමන් ගන්නා අතර, එම පිරිසද මෙසේ අපද්‍රව්‍ය ඩෙවෝන් ඇළට මුදාහැරීම හේතුවෙන් දැඩි ලෙස පීඩාවට පත් වි සිටි බවයි කාර්යාලයේ පරිපාලන මහජන සෞඛ්‍ය පරික්ෂකවරයා කියා සිටියේ.

තවද කොටගල නගරයේ කුකුළු මස් වෙළදසැල්වල අලෙවි කරන වෙළදසැල්වල ඉවතලන අපද්‍රව්‍යත් මෙවැනි ආකාරයට රැගෙනවිත් ඩෙවෝන් ඇලට මුදාහරින බවට තොරතුරු ලැබී ඇති බවත්, එම පිරිසද නීතියේ රැහැනට හසු කර ගැනීමට කටයුතු කරන බවයි පරිපාලන මහජන සෞඛ්‍ය පරික්ෂකවරයා කියා සිටියේ.

Two Suspects Arrested for Dumping Waste in Devons River

In a significant public health intervention, authorities apprehended two employees of a local butcher shop along with a three-wheeled vehicle for allegedly dumping waste into the Devons River. The suspects were detained during the afternoon of October 1 by health inspectors from the Kotagala Medical Officer of Health (MOH) office, following a tip-off regarding their illegal activities.

The duo, alongside their accomplice, appeared before Hatton Magistrate Peter Paul, who subsequently granted bail set at 200,000 rupees for one of the suspects, while both were released pending further investigation. The magistrate has scheduled the case for review on October 10.

Reports indicated that the butcher shop's management was failing to implement a proper waste disposal system, prompting employees to resort to dumping off cuts and other waste materials near a railway bridge in the Rosita area, just 60 feet from a public space. This decision to discard waste at the site, situated near tea estates such as Christ’s Farm, severely disrupted the daily activities of tea workers who regularly traverse the area.

According to K. Sudarshan, a health official from the Kotagala MOH office, the garbage was being disposed of in close proximity to where these workers commute, causing significant distress among the local workforce. The officials seized the two workers during the act of dumping waste directly into the river.

Furthermore, it has come to light that similar waste disposal practices are occurring at chicken meat shops in the Kotagala urban area, posing a wider environmental and public health concern. The authorities have vowed to take stricter legal actions against those involved in these offenses.
