 ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ආරක්ෂක ක්ෂේත්‍රය නවීකරණය කිරීම සහ තාක්ෂණික සහයෝගීතාව වර්ධනය කරගැනීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් ශ්‍රී ලංකා ආරක්ෂක ලේකම්වරයා සහ උතුරු අත්ලාන්තික් ගිවිසුම් සංවිධානයේ (NATO) හමුදා කමිටු ප්‍රධානියා අතර විශේෂ සාකච්ඡාවක් පවත්වා තිබේ.

කෙසේ වෙතත්, මෙම ක්‍රියාවලිය මෙරට ස්වෛරීභාවයට බලපෑමක් බව පවසමින් ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ කොමියුනිස්ට් පක්ෂය සිය දැඩි විරෝධය පළ කර සිටී.

කැනඩාවේ වික්ටෝරියා නුවර පැවැති ආරක්ෂක මාණ්ඩලික ප්‍රධානීන්ගේ සමුළුවට සමගාමීව, ආරක්ෂක ලේකම් එයාර් වයිස් මාර්ෂල් සම්පත් තුයියකොන්තා (විශ්‍රාමික) සහ නේටෝ හමුදා කමිටුවේ ප්‍රධානී අද්මිරාල් ජුසෙප් කැවෝ ඩ්‍රැගන් (Giuseppe Cavo Dragone) අතර මෙම ද්විපාර්ශ්වික සාකච්ඡාව අගෝස්තු 31 වැනිදා පවත්වා ඇත.

මෙහිදී ශ්‍රී ලංකා ආරක්ෂක හමුදාවන්හි උපකරණ නවීකරණය, සයිබර් මෙහෙයුම්, නිරීක්ෂණ පද්ධති ශක්තිමත් කිරීම සහ උසස් තාක්ෂණික දැනුම හුවමාරු කරගැනීම පිළිබඳව දීර්ඝ ලෙස අවධානය යොමු වී තිබේ.

මීට අමතරව, ආපදා කළමනාකරණ කටයුතු සඳහා නියමුවන් රහිත ගුවන් යානා (Drones) භාවිත කිරීම සහ දෙපාර්ශවය අතර හමුදා පුහුණු වැඩසටහන් පුළුල් කිරීම පිළිබඳව ද ආරක්ෂක ලේකම්වරයා මෙහිදී කරුණු පැහැදිලි කර ඇත.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාව සමඟ පවතින සබඳතා තවදුරටත් ශක්තිමත් කරන ලෙස ආරක්ෂක ලේකම්වරයා එහිදී නේටෝ සංවිධානයෙන් ඉල්ලීමක් ද කර තිබේ.

මේ අතර, නේටෝ සංවිධානය සමඟ මෙලෙස ආරක්ෂක සබඳතා ගොඩනගා ගැනීමට රජය දරන උත්සාහය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ කොමියුනිස්ට් පක්ෂය දැඩි ලෙස හෙළා දැක ඇත. නිවේදනයක් නිකුත් කරමින් එම පක්ෂය පෙන්වා දෙන්නේ නේටෝව යනු අධිරාජ්‍යවාදී අරමුණු සහිත සංවිධානයක් බවයි.

ආරක්ෂක අමාත්‍යාංශය නේටෝ සංවිධානය සමඟ එළඹීමට අපේක්ෂා කරන ගිවිසුම් පිළිබඳව වහාම රටට හෙළි කළ යුතු බව එම පක්ෂය අවධාරණය කරයි.

මෙම ක්‍රියාවලිය හරහා වත්මන් ආණ්ඩුවේ විදේශ ප්‍රතිපත්තිය ලෝකය හමුවේ නිරාවරණය වන බවත්, සැප්තැම්බර් 01 වැනිදා ආරක්ෂක අමාත්‍යාංශය නිකුත් කළ නිල නිවේදනය මගින් මෙම අනතුරුදායක සබඳතාව තහවුරු වන බවත් කොමියුනිස්ට් පක්ෂය වැඩිදුරටත් පෙන්වා දෙයි.

Sri Lanka and NATO Discuss Enhanced Security Collaboration Amid Political Controversy

A significant discussion took place between Sri Lanka's Secretary of Defence and the head of NATO's military committee regarding the modernization of Sri Lanka's defence sector and the enhancement of technological cooperation. This dialogue unfolded during a meeting coinciding with a conference of Defence Chiefs held in Victoria, Canada, on August 31.

However, the Communist Party of Sri Lanka has expressed vehement opposition to this engagement, citing concerns over potential impacts on the nation's sovereignty. They argue that the collaboration with NATO serves imperialistic objectives rather than the interests of Sri Lanka.

During the bilateral talks, Air Vice Marshal (Ret.) Sumith Thuyyakontha underscored topics such as the upgrading of military equipment, cyber operations, strengthening surveillance systems, and the exchange of advanced technological knowledge.

In addition, he elaborated on the use of uncrewed aerial vehicles (drones) for disaster management tasks and emphasized expanding military training programs between the two parties.

Thuyyakontha also appealed for NATO to further strengthen its ties with Sri Lanka, highlighting the importance of deepening collaborative efforts.

The government's initiative to establish closer defence relations with NATO has drawn sharp criticism from the Communist Party, which released a statement branding NATO as an organization with expansionist motives. They demanded that the Ministry of Defence promptly disclose any agreements anticipated with NATO to the public.

Furthermore, the Communist Party warned that this process exposes the current government's foreign policy to global scrutiny, insisting that a statement issued by the Defence Ministry on September 1 confirms this concerning relationship.
