Legal Dispute Halts Access to Newly Opened Metro Bus Station in Kadawatha

A legal dispute has emerged concerning the ownership of land associated with the recently inaugurated Metro Bus Station in Kadawatha, leading to restrictions on public access to the area. The Kadawatha Magistrate's Court has issued a ban on entry for several parties involved, including parliamentarian Ashith Niroshan and Kadawatha Municipal Council Chairman Ranjan Jayalal.

The legal action stems from claims by Millennium Housing Limited, a private company, asserting that the land in question is their private property. The company initially lodged a complaint with the local police regarding the situation and subsequently took the matter to the Kadawatha Magistrate's Court.

In compliance with a court order, notices prohibiting entry to the premises have now been prominently displayed at the bus station's entrance.

Those named as defendants in the case include MP Ashith Niroshan from the National People’s Power party, Municipal Council Chairman Ranjan Jayalal, as well as directors from Lanka Metro Transit Pvt Ltd, namely Nalin Chandana Perera and Sanjeewa Nandan Kanakaratne. They have been summoned to appear before the Kadawatha Magistrate’s Court on the 19th of this month.

Transport workers have reported that the inability to access the bus station has forced them to halt buses on both sides of the road, creating further disruptions in service.

This land dispute is not the first of its kind, as previous conflicting situations have been documented between the private company and local administrative bodies regarding land use associated with the 'Millennium City' housing complex.
