All Government Schools Set to Operate Normally Tomorrow Amid Weather Concerns
Education Ministry's Deputy Minister, Madhura Senavirathna, has announced that all government schools across the country will operate as usual on the 28th, despite adverse weather conditions.
However, taking into account the existing harsh weather, the decision to grant leave to schools in heavily affected areas has been delegated to the principals. This flexibility is aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
Principals will have the autonomy to decide whether to conduct classes or declare holidays, based on prior approval from relevant educational directors, as they assess the risks posed by local adverse weather and ongoing unfavorable climatic conditions.
Forecasters have warned that ongoing cyclonic conditions may result in heavy rainfall exceeding 100 millimeters in various regions. This precautionary measure aims to ensure the safety of students during this volatile weather.
In light of the atmospheric disturbances affecting the country, certain areas are at risk of road submersion, drowning hazards, and slight flooding along major river courses. As a safety measure, the Ministry of Education yesterday declared a special holiday for all government schools nationwide today, the 27th.
