 ගල්ෆ් කලාපයේ යළි මතුව ඇති යුදමය නොසන්සුන්තාව හමුවේ ලෝක වෙළඳපොළේ බොරතෙල් මිල ශීඝ්‍රයෙන් ඉහළ ගියද, දේශීය ඉන්ධන මිල නොවෙනස්ව පවත්වාගෙන යාම සඳහා රජය යළිත් ඉන්ධන සහනාධාරයක් ලබාදීමට සලකා බලමින් සිටින බව වාර්තා වේ.

පසුගිය අප්‍රේල් මාසයේදී හඳුන්වා දුන් තෙමසක ඉන්ධන සහනාධාර පැකේජය ජුනි මාසයෙන් අවසන් වූයේ කලාපීය නොසන්සුන්තාව තරමක් සමනය වීමත් සමඟය.

එහෙත් මේ වන විට ලෝක වෙළඳපොළේ තෙල් මිල යළිත් දැඩි ලෙස ඉහළ යමින් පවතින බැවින්, එම බර ජනතාව මත පැටවීම වැළැක්වීම රජයේ අරමුණ වී ඇති බව ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ නිලධාරියෙක් ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.

මෙම පියවර හරහා ඉහළ යන අතිරේක පිරිවැය රජය විසින් දරා ගනිමින්, දැනට පවතින මිල මට්ටම් එලෙසම පවත්වාගෙන යාමට අපේක්ෂිතය. මීට පෙර ලබා දුන් සහනාධාරය යටතේ ඩීසල් ලීටරයකට රුපියල් 100ක් සහ පෙට්‍රල් ලීටරයකට රුපියල් 20ක් බැගින් සහන සැලසුණු අතර, ඒ සඳහා රජය රුපියල් බිලියන 57ක මුදලක් වෙන් කර තිබුණි.

"පෙට්‍රල් සහ ඩීසල් මිල තවදුරටත් ඉහළ යාම මහජනතාවට දැඩි බරක් වන බැවින්, සහනාධාරය යළි හඳුන්වා දෙන ලෙස අප ජනාධිපතිවරයාගෙන් ඉල්ලීමක් කිරීමට බලාපොරොත්තු වෙනවා," යැයි එම නිලධාරියා වැඩිදුරටත් පැවසීය.

ලෝක වෙළඳපොළේ තෙල් මිල පසුගිය සතිය තුළ පමණක් සියයට 14කට වඩා වැඩි ප්‍රමාණයකින් ඉහළ ගොස් ඇත.

මේ අතර, රුසියානු රජයට සම්බන්ධ සමාගම් දෙකක් මෙරටට බොරතෙල් සහ පිරිපහදු කළ තෙල් සැපයීම සඳහා ලංකා ඛනිජ තෙල් නීතිගත සංස්ථාව (CPC) සමඟ ලියාපදිංචි වී ඇත. රුසියානු සමාගම් මෙරට තෙල් වෙළඳපොළට පිවිසීමත් සමඟ ඇති වන තරඟකාරීත්වය මිල ස්ථාවර කිරීමට තවදුරටත් පිටුවහලක් වනු ඇතැයි රජය විශ්වාසය පළ කරයි.

Government Considers Fuel Subsidies Amid Rising Global Oil Prices

As tensions in the Gulf region resurface, global oil prices are soaring, prompting the Sri Lankan government to consider reintroducing fuel subsidies to maintain local fuel prices unchanged. Reports indicate that officials are actively exploring measures to shield the public from escalating costs.

The fuel subsidy package launched in April came to an end in June, following a temporary easing of regional unrest. However, with oil prices once again on a steep upward trajectory, senior officials disclosed that the government aims to lighten the financial burden on citizens, recognizing the critical need for intervention.

Through this proposed initiative, the government hopes to absorb the additional costs and keep fuel prices steady. Previously, subsidies of Rs. 100 per liter for diesel and Rs. 20 per liter for petrol were provided, with a budget allocation of Rs. 57 billion set aside for this support.

"The continuing rise in petrol and diesel prices poses a significant burden on the public, and we are hopeful for a request for renewed subsidies from our President," the official further emphasized.

In the past week alone, oil prices in global markets surged by more than 14%, intensifying concerns about the economic impact of rising fuel costs.

Meanwhile, two companies linked to the Russian government have registered with the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) to supply crude oil and refined petroleum to Sri Lanka. The government believes that the entry of these Russian firms will enhance competition in the local oil market, potentially stabilizing prices further.
