දේශපාලකයන් හොරට ගෙන්වූ සැප වාහන 400ක් සොයයි...

කොටස් වශයෙන් මෙරටට ගෙන්වා එකලස් කරන ලද හෝ හොර රහසේ මෙරටට ගෙන්වා වංචනික ලෙස ලියාපදිංචි කර දැනට ධාවනය වන සුඛෝපභෝගී වාහන 500ක් පමණ අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනීම සඳහා දූෂණ මර්දන හා විමර්ශන අංශ පුළුල් මෙහෙයුමක් ආරම්භ කර තිබේ.

මෙම වාහන අතරින් වැඩි ප්‍රමාණයක් සුපිරි ගණයේ ජීප් රථ සහ මෝටර් රථ වන අතර, ඒවායින් බහුතරයක් දැනට භාවිත කරනු ලබන්නේ හිටපු දේශපාලනඥයන් විසින් බව විමර්ශනවලදී අනාවරණය වී ඇත.

මෙම මහා පරිමාණ ජාවාරම සඳහා මෝටර් රථ ප්‍රවාහන දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ දූෂිත නිලධාරීන් පිරිසකගේ සහාය ද ලැබී ඇති බවට සැක කෙරේ.

මෝටර් රථ ප්‍රවාහන දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ පරිගණක පද්ධතියට ව්‍යාජ දත්ත ඇතුළත් කරමින් මෙම වාහන ලියාපදිංචි කර ඇති බවත්, ඒ හරහා රජයට ලැබිය යුතු රුපියල් කෝටි ගණනක බදු මුදල් අහිමි වී ඇති බවත් හඳුනාගෙන ඇත.

මේ වන විටත් මෙලෙස වංචනික ලෙස ලියාපදිංචි කළ වාහන 100කට ආසන්න ප්‍රමාණයක් විමර්ශන නිලධාරීන් විසින් සොයාගෙන ඇති අතර, ඉතිරි වාහන 400 සොයා මෙහෙයුම් ක්‍රියාත්මකය.

පසුගිය පාලන සමයන්හිදී සිදුව ඇති මෙම ජාවාරම සම්බන්ධයෙන් මෝටර් රථ ප්‍රවාහන දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ හිටපු කොමසාරිස්වරුන් දෙදෙනෙකු ඇතුළු නිලධාරීන් කිහිප දෙනෙකුගෙන් මීට පෙර ප්‍රශ්න කර ඇති අතර, අල්ලස් හෝ දූෂණ විමර්ශන කොමිෂන් සභාව මගින් ඔවුන් අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනීම ද සිදු විය.

පානදුර වලාන මධ්‍යම දූෂණ මර්දන ප්‍රහාරක බලකාය විසින් 2023 වසරේදී ආරම්භ කරන ලද වැටලීම් මාලාවක ප්‍රතිඵලයක් ලෙස මෙම මහා පරිමාණ වංචාව පිළිබඳ තොරතුරු අනාවරණය විය.

මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් වන ඉදිරි විමර්ශන කටයුතු අපරාධ පරීක්ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව වෙත යොමු කිරීමට ද පියවර ගෙන ඇත.

Major Operation Launched to Seize Luxury Vehicles Linked to Fraudulent Registrations

A sweeping crackdown has been initiated by the Anti-Corruption and Investigative Division targeting approximately 500 luxury vehicles reportedly registered fraudulently in Sri Lanka. These vehicles, believed to have been acquired in parts or smuggled into the country, are currently in operation.

The operation has revealed that a significant number of these vehicles are high-end SUVs and cars, most of which are found to be in use by former political figures. Investigations indicate possible collusion among corrupt officials within the Department of Motor Traffic to facilitate this large-scale illicit trade.

Data entry systems within the Department were manipulated to register these vehicles with forged information, resulting in substantial losses of tax revenue amounting to millions of rupees for the government.

So far, nearly 100 such fraudulently registered vehicles have been uncovered by the investigators, with ongoing operations aimed at locating the remaining 400 vehicles.

Prior to this initiative, several officials, including two former commissioners of the Department of Motor Traffic, faced questioning regarding this extensive fraud, and some were apprehended by the Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission.

The major fraud was uncovered as part of a series of raids commenced in 2023 by the Panadura Central Anti-Corruption Task Force, revealing critical insights into the scale of corruption in vehicle registrations.

Further investigations into this matter have now been referred to the Criminal Investigation Department for deeper scrutiny.
