 ඉරානයට එරෙහිව එක්සත් ජනපදය යළිත් සම්බාධක පැනවීමට ජනාධිපති ඩොනල්ඩ් ට්‍රම්ප් ගත් තීරණයත් සමඟ ලෝක වෙළඳපොළේ බොරතෙල් මිල සඳුදා දිනයේදී 8%කට වඩා වැඩි ප්‍රතිශතයකින් ඉහළ ගොස් තිබේ.

හෝමුස් සමුද්‍ර සන්ධිය හරහා සිදුවන බලශක්ති සැපයුමට දීර්ඝකාලීන බාධා එල්ල වීමේ අවදානම සැලකිල්ලට ගනිමින් මෙලෙස මිල ගණන් ඉහළ ගොස් ඇති බව වාර්තා වේ.

ඒ අනුව, බ්‍රෙන්ට් (Brent) වර්ගයේ බොරතෙල් බැරලයක මිල ඇමරිකානු ඩොලර් 82 ඉක්මවා ගිය අතර, වෙස්ට් ටෙක්සාස් ඉන්ටර්මීඩියට් (WTI) බොරතෙල් බැරලයක මිල ඩොලර් 78සීමාව පසු කර ඇත.

පසුගිය මාසයේ පැවති සටන් විරාමයත් සමඟ තෙල් මිලෙහි දක්නට ලැබුණු පහත වැටීම, කලාපයේ යළිත් ගැටුම්කාරී තත්ත්වයක් නිර්මාණය වීමත් සමඟ මෙලෙස යථා තත්ත්වයට පත්ව තිබේ.

ලෝකයේ සමස්ත තෙල් පරිභෝජනයෙන් පහෙන් එකක් සහ ද්‍රව ස්වභාවික වායු (LNG) විශාල ප්‍රමාණයක් ප්‍රවාහනය කෙරෙන හෝමුස් සමුද්‍ර සන්ධිය ආශ්‍රිතව, පසුගිය සති අන්තයේදී වෙළඳ නෞකාවලට එල්ල වූ ප්‍රහාර මාලාව ද මෙම තත්ත්වය තවදුරටත් උග්‍ර කිරීමට හේතු විය.

මේ අතර, හෝමුස් සමුද්‍ර සන්ධිය හරහා ගමන් කරන නෞකාවලට ඇමරිකානු ආරක්ෂාව ලබා දීම වෙනුවෙන්, එම නෞකාවල පටවා ඇති භාණ්ඩවල වටිනාකමින් 20%ක ගාස්තුවක් අය කිරීමට ජනාධිපති ට්‍රම්ප් යෝජනා කර ඇති බව රොයිටර් පුවත් සේවය වාර්තා කරයි.

Oil Prices Surge Over 8% Amid U.S. Sanctions Against Iran

The decision by President Donald Trump to reinstate sanctions against Iran has sent shockwaves through global oil markets, resulting in an increase of over 8% in oil prices on Monday.

This spike reflects concerns about long-term disruptions to energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for oil transportation. According to reports, the price per barrel of Brent crude has surpassed $82, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude also crossed the $78 mark.

The recent decline in oil prices that followed last month’s ceasefire has been reversed, as tensions in the region escalate once again.

As the Strait of Hormuz carries a significant portion of global oil consumption and liquefied natural gas (LNG), a series of attacks on commercial vessels over the weekend has further exacerbated these concerns.

In related developments, Trump has proposed a 20% fee on the value of goods transported by vessels in the Strait, in exchange for U.S. security protection for those ships, according to reports from Reuters.

However, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has strongly criticized this proposal, stating that international law does not permit such mandatory fees for vessels transiting through critical maritime corridors.

Energy companies had previously rejected similar proposals made by Iran, underscoring that the freedom of navigation is a fundamental principle in international trade.

While there have been no direct disruptions to oil supply thus far, market analysts warn that rising insurance premiums and additional security measures could drive up transportation costs significantly.

As a result, prices for diesel, aviation fuel, and petrol have also begun to rise, with fears of delays in fuel shipments from the Middle East looming on the horizon.
