බංග්ලාදේශ ජනාධිපති මොහොමඩ් ෂහබුදීන් මහතා සිය ධුරයෙන් ඉල්ලා අස්වී ඇති බව එරට ජනාධිපති කාර්යාලය නිල වශයෙන් නිවේදනය කළේය.
76 හැවිරිදි වියේ පසුවන ඒ මහතා සිය ඉල්ලා අස්වීමට හේතුව ලෙස දක්වා ඇත්තේ පවතින සෞඛ්ය ගැටලුයි.
බලයෙන් පහ කෙරුණු හිටපු අගමැතිනි ෂීක් හසීනාගේ සමීපතම දේශපාලන සගයෙකු වූ ෂහබුදීන් මහතා, 2023 අප්රේල් මාසයේ සිට බංග්ලාදේශයේ ජනාධිපති ධුරය හෙබවීය.
තමන් 'Autonomic Neuropathy' නමැති ස්නායු රෝගී තත්ත්වයකින් පෙළෙන බවත්, ඒ හේතුවෙන් විටින් විට ක්ෂණිකව සිහි නැති වීමේ තත්ත්වයන්ට මුහුණ දෙන බවත් ඔහු නිකුත් කළ නිවේදනයක සඳහන් වේ.
මෙම ඉල්ලා අස්වීමත් සමඟ, ෂීක් හසීනාට එරට රජයේ ඉහළ මට්ටමේ සිටි අවසන් හිතවතා ද අහිමි වී තිබේ. 2024 වසරේ පැවති දැවැන්ත ශිෂ්ය අරගලය හමුවේ හසීනා ඉන්දියාවට පලා ගිය අතර, ඇයගේ අවාමි ලීග පක්ෂය මේ වන විට තහනම් කර ඇත.

Bangladesh President Mohammad Shahabuddin Resigns Amid Health Concerns
The President of Bangladesh, Mohammad Shahabuddin, has officially announced his resignation, according to a statement from the Presidential Office. At 76 years of age, Shahabuddin cited ongoing health issues as the reason for stepping down from his position.
A close political ally of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Shahabuddin had been serving as President since April 2023. In his announcement, he revealed that he suffers from a condition known as 'Autonomic Neuropathy,' which causes intermittent episodes of memory loss.
This resignation marks the loss of the last senior ally of Sheikh Hasina's government. Following significant student protests in 2024, Hasina fled to India, and her Awami League party has since been banned. Amidst the background of many leaders from this party either imprisoned or in hiding, Shahabuddin’s departure represents another severe blow to Hasina's political influence.
According to the Bangladeshi Constitution, the Speaker of Parliament will assume presidential duties until a new president is elected. Historically, the Bangladeshi presidency is largely a ceremonial position, with most executive powers vested in the Prime Minister's cabinet; however, the President does serve as the head of the armed forces.
