කොළඹ අගරදගුරු මැල්කම් රංජිත් කාදිනල්තුමාගේ ඉල්ලීම මත, වත්මන් හමුදාපතිවරයාගේ සේවා කාලය 2028 ජනවාරි දක්වා දීර්ඝ කිරීමට රජය සූදානම් වන බවට විපක්ෂ පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී චාමර සම්පත් දසනායක මහතා බරපතල චෝදනාවක් එල්ල කරයි.

ඒකාබද්ධ විපක්ෂය විසින් සංවිධානය කරන ලද සම්මන්ත්‍රණයකට එක්වෙමින් මන්ත්‍රීවරයා සඳහන් කළේ, වත්මන් හමුදාපතිවරයාගේ සේවා කාලය 2026 ජූලි 02 දිනෙන් අවසන් වූ බවයි.

මෙම සේවා කාලය දීර්ඝ කිරීමේ උත්සාහය හේතුවෙන් නිලන්ත ප්‍රේමරත්න ඇතුළු ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ හමුදා නිලධාරීන් රැසකට සිය නිසි තනතුරු අහිමි වීමේ අවදානමක් මතුව ඇති බව ඔහු පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.

2028 වසරේදී හමුදාපති ධුරයට පත්වීමට නියමිතව ඇත්තේ 'ප්‍රනාන්දු' යන වාසගම සහිත පුද්ගලයෙකු බවත්, මේ සියලු තීරණ කාදිනල්තුමාගේ වුවමනාව මත සිදුවන බවත් මන්ත්‍රීවරයා වැඩිදුරටත් පැවසීය.

රජයේ ඉහළ තනතුරු පත් කිරීම් සම්බන්ධයෙන් කාදිනල්තුමාට විශාල බලයක් පවතින බවත්, හමුදාපති සහ අපරාධ පරීක්ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ ප්‍රධානියා පත් කරන්නේ කවුරුන්ද යන්න තීරණය කරන්නේ එතුමා බවත් මන්ත්‍රීවරයා ප්‍රකාශ කළේය. 

එමෙන්ම, මඩකලපුව ප්‍රදේශයේ හමුදාව යටතේ පවතින සුඛෝපභෝගී නිවාඩු නිකේතනවල කතෝලික පූජකවරුන් නවාතැන් ගෙන සිටින බවට ද ඔහු චෝදනා කළේය.

Opposition MP Alleges Extension of Army Chief's Term Linked to Cardinal's Influence

Chamara Sampath Dasanayake, an opposition parliamentarian, has raised serious allegations suggesting that the government is poised to extend the service period of the current Army Commander until January 2028, at the request of Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith of Colombo.

While participating in a conference organized by the United Opposition, Dasanayake pointed out that the Army Commander’s term officially concluded on July 2, 2026. He emphasized that this effort to prolong the Commander’s tenure could potentially result in several senior military officials, including Colonel Nilanta Premarathna, losing their rightful positions.

The parliamentarian further revealed that the individual expected to assume the position of Army Commander in 2028 is connected to the 'Pranandu' locality, suggesting that Cardinal Ranjith's influence plays a pivotal role in these decisions.

Dasanayake also highlighted the significant power wielded by the Cardinal over high-level government appointments, emphasizing that the appointments of the Army Chief and the head of the Criminal Investigation Department are directly determined by him.

Additionally, he accused Catholic priests residing in luxurious vacation homes under the military’s oversight in the Madakalapu area, raising questions about the appropriateness of such arrangements.
