රටේ කෘෂිකාර්මික ක්ෂේත්‍රයේ සැබෑ වෙනසක් ඇති කිරීමට නම් ගොවීන් ද කාලයට සාපේක්ෂව වෙනස් විය යුතු බවත්, ඔවුන් රජවරු හෝ ජාතියේ බත් සපයන්නන් ලෙස හුදෙක් වර්ණනා කිරීමෙන් පමණක් එම වෙනස සිදු කළ නොහැකි බවත් කෘෂිකර්ම, පශු සම්පත්, ඉඩම් සහ වාරිමාර්ග අමාත්‍ය කේ.ඩී. ලාල් කාන්ත මහතා පවසයි.

පසුගිය කාලසීමාවේ පොහොර මිටියක මිල රුපියල් 40,000 - 50,000 දක්වා ඉහළ ගිය අවස්ථාවේදී ගොවීන් වී කිලෝවකට රුපියල් 150ක මිලක් ඉල්ලා සිටි බව සිහිපත් කළ අමාත්‍යවරයා, වත්මන් රජය පොහොර සහනාධාරය සැලකිය යුතු ලෙස වැඩිකර ඇති බැවින් එම තත්ත්වය දැන් වෙනස් වී ඇති බව ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.

වී මිල තීරණය කිරීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් අදහස් දක්වමින් ඔහු කියා සිටියේ, රජය මිල නියම කරන්නේ විද්‍යාත්මක පදනමක් මත බවයි. කෘෂිකර්ම දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව, පසු අස්වනු ආයතනය, ගොවිජන සංවර්ධන දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව සහ අමාත්‍යාංශය එක්ව පිරිවැය ගණනය කර මෙම තීරණ ගන්නා බවත්, පුද්ගලික මට්ටමින් ඉදිරිපත් කරන දත්ත මත රජයට තීරණ ගත නොහැකි බවත් ඔහු අවධාරණය කළේය.

සහල් මිල සම්බන්ධයෙන් පාරිභෝගිකයන්ට මේ වන විට කිසිදු ගැටලුවක් නොමැති බව පැවසූ අමාත්‍යවරයා, අධිකරණ ක්‍රියාවලීන් පිළිබඳව මාධ්‍යවේදීන් නැඟූ ප්‍රශ්නයකට පිළිතුරු දෙමින් කියා සිටියේ තමන් මෙහි පැමිණ සිටින්නේ කෘෂිකර්මාන්තය පිළිබඳ කටයුතු කිරීමට මිස අධිකරණ කටයුතු පිළිබඳව නොවන බවයි.

Minister Stresses the Need for Agricultural Evolution in Sri Lanka

To bring about a genuine transformation in the country's agricultural sector, farmers must adapt to changing times rather than simply being labeled as the "providers of rice" or "kings of cultivation," emphasized K.D. Lal Kantha, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation.

In remarks to the media, the minister highlighted that the country is currently experiencing a transformative era. He conveyed the government's readiness to tackle the challenges that arise during such transitional phases and underscored the importance of moving away from outdated practices towards new methodologies.

Recalling the recent surge in fertilizer prices, which escalated to between 40,000 and 50,000 rupees, he noted that farmers had demanded a price of 150 rupees per kilogram at that time. However, he pointed out that the current government has significantly increased fertilizer subsidies, leading to an improved situation for farmers.

Regarding the determination of rice prices, the minister stated that the government sets prices based on scientific principles. Decisions are made collaboratively by the Departments of Agriculture, Agrarian Development, and the Ministry, based on cost assessments. He emphasized that the government cannot make decisions solely based on data presented at an individual level.

Addressing consumer concerns about rice prices, the minister affirmed that there are currently no issues for consumers. Responding to inquiries related to court proceedings, he clarified that his purpose for being present was to discuss agricultural matters, not legal concerns.
