 ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට ආනයනය කරන ලද ගල් අඟුරු නැව් 19ක්ම ප්‍රමිතියෙන් තොර බවත්, ඒ හේතුවෙන් රටට රුපියල් කෝටි 1000කට අධික පාඩුවක් සිදුව ඇති බවත් පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී එස්.එම්. මරික්කාර් මහතා පවසයි.

පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේදී අදහස් දක්වමින් ඒ මහතා මේ බව අනාවරණය කළේය.

ලක්විජය බලාගාරය විසින් ලබාදුන් වාර්තා මගින් මෙම ගල් අඟුරු ප්‍රමිතියෙන් තොර බව මුලින්ම අනාවරණය වුවද, රජයේ ඇතැම් පාර්ශව එය පිළිගැනීමට මැලි වූ බව මන්ත්‍රීවරයා සඳහන් කළේය.

පසුව ඕස්ට්‍රේලියාවේ 'බියුරෝ වෙරිටාස් ඉන්ටර්නැෂනල්' (Bureau Veritas International) ආයතනය මගින් සිදුකළ තෙවන පාර්ශවීය පරීක්ෂණයකදී ද අදාළ ගල් අඟුරු නැව් 19ම ප්‍රමිතියෙන් තොර බව තහවුරු වී ඇතැයි ඔහු පැවසීය.

මෙම බාල ගල් අඟුරු භාවිතය හේතුවෙන් විදුලි උත්පාදනයට බාධා පැමිණ ඇති අතර, එම අඩුව පිරවීම සඳහා ඩීසල් සහ ෆර්නස් ඔයිල් මිලදී ගැනීමට රජයට සිදුව තිබේ.

ඒ අනුව ජනවාරි 01 සිට ජූනි 30 දක්වා කාලය තුළ පමණක් රුපියල් මිලියන 8,536ක අතිරේක පිරිවැයක් දැරීමට සිදුව ඇති බවත්, එළඹෙන සැප්තැම්බර් 12 වනදා දක්වා මෙම බාල ගල් අඟුරු භාවිත කිරීමට සිදුවීම නිසා සමස්ත පාඩුව රුපියල් මිලියන 10,000 ඉක්මවා යනු ඇති බවත් මරික්කාර් මහතා පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.

විදුලි බිල දෙවරක් ඉහළ දැමීමට මෙවැනි අක්‍රමිකතා සෘජුවම බලපා ඇති බව චෝදනා කළ මන්ත්‍රීවරයා, මේ පිළිබඳව වූ අදාළ ලේඛන ද සභාවට ඉදිරිපත් කළේය.

රජය පවසන 'සිස්ටම් චේන්ජ්' එකේ සැබෑ ස්වරූපය මෙය දැයි ඔහු මෙහිදී ප්‍රශ්න කර සිටියේය.

Import of Substandard Coal Leads to Significant Financial Loss for Sri Lanka

The importation of 19 ships carrying coal into Sri Lanka has been deemed substandard, resulting in a staggering financial loss exceeding 1 billion rupees for the nation, as highlighted by Member of Parliament S.M. Marikkar.

During a recent parliamentary session, Marikkar revealed these concerning findings, noting that initial reports from the Lakvijaya Power Plant had already flagged the coal's inadequacy. However, he criticized certain government factions for their reluctance to acknowledge these issues.

Further complicating matters, an independent investigation conducted by Bureau Veritas International in Australia confirmed that all 19 coal shipments failed to meet the required standards. Marikkar emphasized the ramifications of this substandard coal, which have disrupted electricity generation, forcing the government to procure diesel and furnace oil as alternatives.

From January 1 to June 30, the government incurred an additional expenditure of approximately 8.536 million rupees solely due to this issue. With the continued use of this flawed coal expected to extend until September 12, the total financial impact may surpass 10 million rupees, he warned.

Marikkar also pointed out that such inefficiencies have directly contributed to two increases in electricity tariffs. He presented relevant documentation to support his claims, questioning whether this tangled situation reflects the true nature of the government's so-called 'system change.'
