මධ්‍යම කදුකරයේ බටහැර බෑවුම් ප්‍ර දේශවල පවතින දැඩි අයහපත් කාලගුණය සහ ප්‍රධාන මාර්ගවල රථවාහන ගමනා ගමනයට බාධා ඇති වීමෙන් හැටන් ලංගම ඩිපෝවේ දෛනික ආදායම රු.ලක්ෂ 33 සිට රු.ලක්ෂ 10-12ත් දක්වා පහළ බැස ඇති බව හැටන් ලංගම ඩිපොවේ කලමණාකරු පාලිත විරසූරිය මහතා පැවසීය.

මාධ්‍යට විශේෂ ප්‍රකාශයක් කරමින් ඩිපෝ කළමණාකාරවරයා කියා සිටියේ, සාමාන්‍ය දිනවල තම ඩිපෝව මගින් දුර සහ කෙටි දුර බස් රථ 75ක් ධාවනයට එක් කරන බවයි.

එම අවස්ථාවල මගීන් 18000-26000ක් පමණ තම ඩිපෝවේ බස් රථවල ගමන් කලද පවතින දැඩි වර්ෂාවත් සමග ගත වූ 03/04/05 යන තෙදින තුල දිනකට මගීන් 9218 – 10000ත් අතර ප්‍රමාණයක් ගමන් කිරිම නිසා මෙම ආදායම් තත්වය පහළ වැටී ඇති බවයි ඩිපෝ කලමණාකාරවරයා කියා සිටියේ.

පවතින අයහපත් කාලගුණයත් සමග පාසල් නිවාඩු ලබා දීම, මගීන් නිවෙස්වලින් බැහැර නොවීම හේතුවෙන් මෙම මගීන් සංඛ්‍යාව අඩු වී ඇති බවයි.

තවද, තම ඩිපෝවේ සේවකියන් 328 දෙනෙකු සේවය කරන බවත්, ඔවුන්ට මේ මස වැටුප ගෙවීමට අවශ්‍ය රු. ලක්ෂ 138ක පමණ මුදල මේ වන විට උපයාගෙන ඇති බවද ඩිපෝ කළමණාකාරවරයා වැඩි දුරටත් පැවසීය.

Severe Weather Disrupts Daily Operations at Hatton Bus Depot

The ongoing severe inclement weather in the central highlands, particularly in the Battahala area, has significantly impeded vehicle traffic on major roads, leading to a dramatic dip in daily revenue at the Hatton bus depot. Manager Palitha Virasuriya disclosed that the depot's daily earnings have plummeted from a substantial Rs. 3.3 million to between Rs. 1 million and Rs. 1.2 million.

In a special statement to the media, Virasuriya elaborated that under normal circumstances, approximately 75 buses would operate from the depot catering to both long and short-distance routes. However, due to the adverse weather conditions, daily passenger numbers have dropped considerably.

During the rains, between March 3 and March 5, passenger counts fell to just 9,218 to 10,000 daily, a stark contrast to the usual ridership levels of 18,000 to 26,000. This significant decline has led to a precarious financial situation for the depot.

The manager attributed the reduction in passengers, not only to the prevailing bad weather but also to school holidays and the reluctance of many passengers to leave their homes during such harsh conditions. This confluence of factors has led to a reduced number of commuters utilizing the bus services.

Additionally, Virasuriya noted that the depot employs 328 staff members, and the total salary amounting to Rs. 1.38 million required for this month has reportedly been difficult to generate under the current circumstances.
