සැකකරුවන් අත්අඩංගුවට ගන්නා අවස්ථාවේදී රැහැන්වලින් ඉවත් කරන ලද බවට සැක කෙරෙන තඹ කම්බි කිලෝග්රෑම් තුනක්, තඹ නොවන කම්බි අඩි 344ක්, තඹ කම්බි ඉවත් කර තිබූ රබර් ආවරණ තොගයක් සහ කම්බි කැපීම සඳහා විශේෂයෙන් සකස් කළ බවට සැක කෙරෙන පිහි දෙකක්ද පොලිසිය භාරයට ගෙන තිබේ.
අත්අඩංගුවට ගෙන ඇත්තේ කඳපොළ ප්රදේශයේ පදිංචි පලනි අප්පන් තංගරාජ් (40) සහ හාලිඇල ප්රදේශයේ සිට දෛනික කුලී වැඩ සඳහා නුවරඑළියට පැමිණ හාවාඑළිය ප්රදේශයේ තාවකාලිකව පදිංචිව සිටි රාමනාදන් මාදවන් (30) යන දෙදෙනා බව පොලිසිය සඳහන් කරයි.
විදුලි සංදේශ ආයතනයකට අයත් සම්බන්ධතා රැහැන් කපා තඹ කම්බි ඉවත් කිරීම හුදෙක් දේපළ සොරකමකට පමණක් සීමා නොවන අතර, එමගින් මහජන සන්නිවේදන සේවා බිඳවැටීම, ආයතනයට අලාභ සිදුවීම සහ පොදු ජනතාවට අපහසුතා ඇතිවීමේ තත්ත්වයක්ද මතුවිය හැකි බව නීතිමය වශයෙන් සැලකිය යුතු කරුණකි.

Two Arrested for Copper Theft from Sri Lanka Telecom in Nuwara Eliya
Authorities in Nuwara Eliya have apprehended two individuals suspected of engaging in a series of thefts related to copper cables belonging to Sri Lanka Telecom. The police took action after receiving multiple complaints about the unlawful removal of telephone lines in the area.
The incidents reportedly took place over the past five months, particularly around areas such as High Reservoir Road and Sandathanna. Investigations launched in response to these reports led to the identification and arrest of the suspects.
During the arrests, officers recovered three kilograms of copper cables believed to have been cut from the lines, along with 344 non-copper wires, a stash of rubber coverings, and two tools specifically designed for the cable theft.
The detained individuals have been identified as Palani Appan Thangaraj, 40, a resident of Kadpola, and Ramnathan Madavan, 30, who was temporarily residing in the Hawaeliya area while engaged in daily labor in Nuwara Eliya.
This act of cutting copper cables not only constitutes theft but also poses a significant threat to public communication services, resulting in potential disruptions and financial losses for the telecommunications company, as well as inconveniencing the general public.
Under Sri Lanka's Penal Code, actions that damage or diminish the value of property owned by another can be classified as "mischief." The determination of responsibility for such offenses typically hinges on thorough investigations, evidence collection, and the judicial process.
Future inquiries will focus on assessing the value of the stolen copper and other materials, as well as the losses sustained by Sri Lanka Telecom as a result of these incidents. The police have yet to estimate the total value of the recovered materials, but they plan to conduct necessary evaluations following the submission of evidence to the court.
