ප්‍රධාන තිරිඟු පිටි ආනයනික සමාගම් මුහුණ දී ඇති මෙම ගැටලුකාරී තත්ත්වය පිළිබඳව වෙළෙඳ, වාණිජ, ආහාර සුරක්ෂිතතා සහ සමුපකාර සංවර්ධන අමාත්‍ය වසන්ත සමරසිංහ මහතා සමඟ පැවැති විශේෂ සාකච්ඡාවකදී ඔවුහු මේ බව අනාවරණය කළහ.

ගෝලීය වෙළෙඳපොළේ තිරිඟු මිල ශීඝ්‍රයෙන් ඉහළ යාම මෙන්ම, නෞකා ප්‍රවාහන සහ රක්ෂණ ගාස්තු ඉහළ යාම හේතුවෙන් මෙරට ප්‍රධාන ආනයනික සමාගම් දැඩි අසීරුතාවයකට පත්ව ඇති බව මෙහිදී දීර්ඝ ලෙස සාකච්ඡා විය.

ආනයනකරුවන් විසින් ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලද ඉල්ලීම් සහ යෝජනා සැලකිල්ලට ගත් අමාත්‍යවරයා, ඒ සම්බන්ධයෙන් ඉදිරි නියාමන තීරණ ගැනීම සඳහා එම කරුණු ආහාර සුරක්ෂිතතා කමිටුව වෙත යොමු කිරීමට පියවර ගත්තේය.

Rising Costs Pressure Sri Lankan Flour Importers Amid Global Market Challenges

Sri Lankan flour importers are grappling with significant financial pressures due to the necessity of sourcing flour from alternative markets such as Australia and Canada. This revelation comes as representatives of major flour import companies voiced their concerns during a recent meeting with Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Consumer Development, Vasanta Samarasinghe.

The discussion highlighted the troubling circumstances faced by these importers, driven by rapidly escalating global flour prices along with increased shipping and insurance costs. These factors have compounded the difficulties for Sri Lanka's primary importers, thrusting them into a precarious financial situation.

In response to the requests and suggestions put forth by the importers, the Minister has decided to forward these issues to the Food Safety Committee. This step aims to facilitate informed decision-making regarding future regulatory actions in light of the challenges facing the flour import sector.
