 වසරේ ගතවූ කාලසීමාව තුළ මෙරටින් වාර්තා වූ සමස්ත ඩෙංගු රෝගීන් සංඛ්‍යාව 89,639ක් දක්වා ඉහළ ගොස් ඇති බව ජාතික ඩෙංගු මර්දන ඒකකය පවසයි.

ඩෙංගු වසංගත තත්ත්වය හේතුවෙන් මේ දක්වා පුද්ගල මරණ 65ක් වාර්තා වී ඇති අතර, එම මරණවලින් සියයට 70ක්ම කාන්තාවන් බව ජාතික ඩෙංගු මර්දන ඒකකයේ අධ්‍යක්ෂ, විශේෂඥ වෛද්‍ය කපිල කන්නන්ගර මහතා සඳහන් කළේය.

අගෝස්තු මාසයේ මුල් දින නවය තුළ පමණක් ඩෙංගු රෝගීන් 4,292ක් හඳුනාගෙන තිබේ. කෙසේ වෙතත්, දිනකට වාර්තා වන රෝගීන් සංඛ්‍යාවේ යම් අඩුවීමක් මේ වන විට දක්නට ලැබෙන බව අධ්‍යක්ෂවරයා පෙන්වා දෙයි.

ඒ අනුව මීට පෙර දිනකට 1,300ක් පමණ වූ රෝගීන් වාර්තා වීම, මේ වන විට දිනකට 350ත් 400ත් අතර ප්‍රමාණයකට පහත වැටී ඇත.

Dengue Fever Cases Surge in Sri Lanka, 65 Deaths Reported This Year

The National Dengue Control Unit has reported a startling increase in dengue fever cases, with a total of 89,639 patients recorded this year alone. This alarming rise emphasizes the ongoing health crisis presented by the dengue epidemic in the country.

Alongside the rising case count, the outbreak has also resulted in 65 fatalities. Dr. Kapila Kannangara, the director of the National Dengue Control Unit, highlighted that approximately 70% of the deceased are women, drawing attention to the demographic impact of the disease.

In early August, specifically within the first nine days, there were 4,292 new cases identified. However, Dr. Kannangara noted a gradual decline in the daily reports of new infections, indicating some hopeful news amid the crisis.

Previously, the daily case count had surged as high as 1,300, but it has since decreased to about 350 to 400 cases per day currently, suggesting a potential stabilization.

Looking ahead, Dr. Kannangara emphasized the need for vigilance concerning upcoming rainfall and climatic variations. He reaffirmed that mosquito control initiatives will continue aggressively to combat the spread of dengue fever in the coming months.
