අර්ජුන් මහේන්ද්‍රන්මේ වන විට සිය නම වෙනස් කර සිංගප්පූරු පුරවැසිභාවය ලබාගෙන ඇති බවත්, එම රටේ පවතින නීතිමය තත්ත්වයන් හේතුවෙන් ඔහුව මෙරටට ගෙන්වා ගැනීම සංකීර්ණ වී ඇති බවත් අමාත්‍යවරයා මෙහිදී පැහැදිලි කළේය.

කෙසේ වෙතත්, පවතින නීතිමය බාධාවන් මඟහරවා ගනිමින් ඔහුව මෙරටට ගෙන්වා ගැනීමට අවශ්‍ය විවිධ උපක්‍රමශීලී පියවර රජය විසින් ගනිමින් සිටින බව ද ඔහු වැඩිදුරටත් පැවසීය.

බැඳුම්කර නඩුව මේ වන විට අධිකරණය හමුවේ ඉදිරියට යමින් පවතින බවත්, අපරාධ මගින් උපයාගත් දේපළ සම්බන්ධයෙන් විමර්ශනය කිරීම සඳහා විශේෂ ඒකකයක් ස්ථාපිත කර ඇති බවත් අමාත්‍යවරයා මෙහිදී අනාවරණය කළේය.

අපරාධකරුවන් සතු දේපළ රාජසන්තක කිරීමට අවශ්‍ය කටයුතු කිසිදු බාධාවකින් තොරව සිදු කරන බව ද ඔහු අවධාරණය කළේය.

විදේශගතව සිටින අපරාධකරුවන් මෙරටට ගෙන්වා ගැනීමේ ප්‍රගතිය පිළිබඳව අදහස් දක්වමින් අමාත්‍යවරයා කියා සිටියේ මේ වන විට පුද්ගලයන් 236 දෙනෙකුට එරෙහිව රතු වරෙන්තු නිකුත් කර ඇති බවයි. ඉන් රතු වරෙන්තු 110ක්ම නිකුත් කර ඇත්තේ වත්මන් රජය බලයට පත්වීමෙන් පසුව බව ඔහු පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.

වත්මන් රජය යටතේ මේ වන විට පාතාල කල්ලි සාමාජිකයන් සහ මත්ද්‍රව්‍ය ජාවාරම්කරුවන් ඇතුළු අපරාධකරුවන් 66 දෙනෙකු මෙරටට ගෙන්වා ගැනීමට සමත්ව ඇත.

තවත් රතු වරෙන්තුකරුවන් 97 දෙනෙකු පිළිබඳව විමර්ශන ක්‍රියාත්මක වන අතර, ඉන් 39 දෙනෙකු රැඳී සිටින රටවල් සහ ස්ථාන මේ වන විටත් හඳුනාගෙන තිබේ.

ලබන සතියේදී තවත් සංවිධානාත්මක අපරාධකරුවෙකු මෙරටට ගෙන්වා ගැනීමට නියමිත බව ද අමාත්‍ය ආනන්ද විජේපාල මහතා සිරස රූපවාහිනිය වෙත වැඩිදුරටත් ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.

Legal Hurdles Remain for Extradition of Key Suspect in Bond Scandal

The extradition of Arjun Mahendran, a principal suspect in the Central Bank bond scandal, faces several legal obstacles, as revealed by Minister of Public Security, Tiran Alles. Speaking during a segment on the Sirasa television channel’s program "Today," the minister explained the complexities involved in bringing Mahendran back to Sri Lanka.

Mahendran has reportedly obtained Singaporean citizenship under a different name, complicating his return due to the legal framework present in that country. The minister clarified that the government is actively working to navigate the existing legal challenges to facilitate Mahendran’s extradition.

Current court proceedings related to the bond case are ongoing, and a special unit has been established to investigate assets acquired through criminal activities, the minister disclosed. He emphasized that efforts to seize properties belonging to the accused will continue without obstruction.

Commenting on the status of extraditing criminals residing abroad, he noted that red notices have been issued against 236 individuals. Of these, 110 red notices were issued after the current government assumed office, highlighting a significant push for accountability.

Under the current administration, 66 criminals, including members of organized gangs and drug traffickers, have been successfully extradited to the country. Ongoing investigations are taking place regarding another 97 individuals with red notices, with 39 locations and countries identified where they are currently located.

Minister Alles further indicated that plans are underway to extradite another organized crime suspect in the coming week, assuring the public of the government's commitment to tackling crime and restoring justice.
