ඇඹිලිපිටියේදී පැවැති මාධ්‍ය හමුවකදී අදහස් දක්වමින් එම ව්‍යාපාරයේ නිලධාරීන් සහ ගොවි නියෝජිතයන් කියා සිටියේ, වී කිලෝවක් සඳහා දැනට නියම කර ඇති රුපියල් 120ක මිල කිසිසේත්ම ප්‍රමාණවත් නොවන බවයි.

එසේම, රජයේ ගබඩාවලට ලබාදුන් වී සඳහා ද මෙතෙක් මුදල් ගෙවා නොමැති බවත්, ඒ පිළිබඳව බැංකුවලින් විමසූ විට රජයේ ගිණුම්වල මුදල් නොමැති බව පවසන බවත් ඔවුහු චෝදනා කරති.

ගොවීන් රජයෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටින්නේ වී මිල වැඩි කිරීමට නොහැකි නම්, පොහොර මල්ලක මිල රුපියල් 5,000 දක්වා අඩු කර ඕනෑම ප්‍රදේශයකින් ලබාගත හැකි පරිසරයක් සකස් කරන ලෙසයි.

කෘෂි උපකරණ සහ කෘෂි රසායන ද්‍රව්‍යවල මිල සීඝ්‍රයෙන් ඉහළ යාම හේතුවෙන් නිෂ්පාදන වියදම දරාගත නොහැකි මට්ටමකට පත්ව ඇති බව පෙන්වා දෙන ගොවි නියෝජිතයන්, එම වියදම් කඩිනමින් පහත හෙළීමට රජය පියවර ගත යුතු බව අවධාරණය කළහ.

එසේ නොමැති වුවහොත් දිවයින පුරා සිටින ගොවීන් ඒකාබද්ධ වී දැවැන්ත විරෝධතා ව්‍යාපාරයක් දියත් කරන බවට ද ඔවුහු අනතුරු ඇඟවූහ.

මෙහිදී වැඩිදුරටත් අදහස් දැක්වූ ගොවි නියෝජිතයන් කෘෂිකර්ම අමාත්‍යවරයාගේ සහ නියෝජ්‍ය අමාත්‍යවරයාගේ ක්‍රියාකලාපය දැඩි ලෙස විවේචනය කළහ.

වත්මන් රජය මෙරට කෘෂිකර්මාන්තය විනාශ කිරීමට කටයුතු කරන බවත්, ඉතිහාසයේ කවරදාකවත් මෙවැනි තත්ත්වයක් උදා වී නොමැති බවත් ඔවුහු පැවසූහ.

එසේම ගොවි සංවිධානවල කටයුතු සඳහා රජය මැදිහත් වී ට්‍රැක්ටර් රථ ලබාදිය යුතු බව ද ඔවුහු මෙහිදී ඉල්ලා සිටියහ.

මෙම මාධ්‍ය හමුව සඳහා වලව ඒකාබද්ධ ගොවි ව්‍යාපාරයේ සභාපති සේන රත්නායක, ප්‍රධාන ලේකම් නන්දා රණසිංහ සහ උප ලේකම් ජයදේව ගමගේ යන මහත්වරුන් ඇතුළු පිරිසක් එක්ව සිටියහ.

Farmers in Crisis Over Low Rice Prices and High Production Costs

The unified agricultural collective of Walawa is vocally criticizing the government, citing a severe crisis faced by farmers due to inadequate prices for rice and soaring production expenses. Officials and representatives gathered for a media conference in Embilipitiya to highlight their concerns.

They pointed out that the current price of Rs. 120 per kilogram for rice is entirely insufficient to sustain farming livelihoods. Furthermore, they raised alarming issues regarding government accounts, stating that payments for rice supplied to government warehouses remain unpaid. They allege that inquiries at banks reveal a lack of funds in these accounts.

The farmers have urged the government to either raise the price of rice or reduce the fertilizer price to Rs. 5,000, stressing the need for an accessible supply environment across all regions. Escalating prices for agricultural tools and chemicals have pushed production costs beyond sustainable limits, underscoring the urgency for government intervention to alleviate these financial burdens.

If no action is taken, the collective warns of a large-scale protest movement that would mobilize farmers across the nation. They also criticized the actions of the Minister of Agriculture and his deputy, questioning their commitment to addressing the farmers' plight.

Farmers expressed their belief that the current administration is actively working to dismantle the country’s agricultural sector, stating that such a dire situation has never been witnessed in Sri Lanka's history. They have also requested government involvement in facilitating access to tractors for agricultural organizations to enhance productivity.

This media event saw participation from notable figures in the Walawa Agricultural Collective, including Chairman Sena Rathnayake, General Secretary Nanda Ranasinghe, and Deputy Secretary Jayadewa Gamage.
