පසුගිය දා නාවලපිටිය ප්‍රදේශයට ඇදහැලුණු ධාරානිපාත වතාවත් සමග නාවලපිටියේ සිට ඉඟුරුඔය නවගම්මානය දක්වා දිවෙන මාර්ගයේ හගරන්ඔය හරහා වැටී තිබූ කොන්ක්‍රීට් පාලම ජල පහරට අසුව ඉවුරු කඩා ඔයට වැටි විනාශ වී ඇත.

එම ගම්මානයේ පවුල් 350ක ජනතාව ඉන් පිටතට පැමිණීමට නොහැකිව අසීරුතාවයට පත්ව තිබෙන බවත්, මේ හේතුවෙන් පාලමෙන් මෙගොඩට පැමිණ ජනතාව තම දෛනික කටයුතු සිදු කරගෙන යෑමට මෙන්ම පාසල් සිසුන්ට තම පාසල් වෙත යෑමට නොහැකි වී තිබෙන බවයි ප්‍රදේශවාසීන් කියා සිටින්නේ.

මෙවර පැවැත්වෙන උසස් පෙළ විභාගය හා ශිෂ්‍යත්ව විභාගය සඳහා ඉදිරිපත් වන සිසු දරුවන්ට තම විභාග මධ්‍යස්ථාන කරා යෑමට නිසි ක්‍රමවේදයක් නොමැති බවත් ඔවුන්ගේ ප්‍රවේශපත්‍ර ග්‍රාම නිලධාරී හරහා සහතික කර ගැනීම පවා අසීරු කටයුත්තක් වී ඇති බවත්, තමන් පත්ව ඇති අසීරුතාවය පිළිබඳ හානියට පත් වූ පාලමේ ගං එවුරට පැමිණ එම ප්‍රදේශවාසීන් විසින් (06) දින විරෝධතාවයක නියැලිණ.

තම ගම්මානයේ බොහෝ පිරිසක් දෛනික කුලී පදනම මත සිදු කරන රැකියා සහ තේ වගාවෙන් ජීවත් තමන්ගේ තේ අස්වැන්න ලොරි රථ සඳහා ලබාදීමට නොහැකීම නිසා තමන් දැඩි අසීරුතාවයකට පත්ව සිටින බවයි ප්‍රදේශවාසීන් කියා සිටියේ.

එසේම මේ වන විට තාවකාලිකව ගම්වාසින් විසින් කිතුල් කඳන් දෙකක් යොදා පිළියමක් ලෙස සකස් කලත් කාන්තාවන්ට, වයෝවෘද්ධ අයට ඒ හරහා ගමන් කිරීම දැඩි අනාරක්ෂිත බවයි ඔවුන් ප්‍රකාශ කර සිටින්නේ.

ජාතික ජන බලවේගයට බලය හිමි පස්බාගේ කෝරළේ ප්‍රාදේශීය සභාවට අයත් මෙම කැඩී ගිය පාලම නැවත ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණය කිරීම සඳහා ගම නියෝජනය කරන පක්ෂ විපක්ෂ මන්ත්‍රීවරුන් එකතු වී සිටීම අගය කරන බවත්, නමුත් හැකි ඉක්මනින් මේ සඳහා විකල්පයක් ලබාදීම ජනාධිපතිතුමන්ගේ වගකීම බව විරෝධතාව සඳහා එක්වුණු ඉඟුරුඔය ශ්‍රී ජයබෝධී විහාරාධිපති දුනුවිල සාලාංකාර හිමියන් කියා සිටියහ.

මෙම විරෝධතාවය සදහා ජාතික ජන බලවේගයේ ප්‍රාදේශීය සභා මන්ත්‍රී සුජීව භාෂිත, සමගි ජන බලවේගයේ මන්ත්‍රී මයුර ප්‍රියංකර යන අයද එකතු වී සිටියහ.

Flooding Damages Bridge, Strands 350 Families in Nawalpitiya

A concrete bridge across the Hagarano River in Nawalpitiya was severely damaged by flooding recently, cutting off access for over 350 families living in the area. The rising waters have made it impossible for residents to leave their homes, leading to significant hardships.

With the bridge to Megoda compromised, locals have resorted to alternative routes to carry out their daily activities, but many schoolchildren are unable to reach their schools as a result of the situation. Residents have expressed their concerns over the difficulties they're facing, citing the lack of accessible pathways.

The upcoming G.C.E. Advanced Level and scholarship examinations also present challenges for students who are struggling to reach their respective exam centers due to the damaged infrastructure. Obtaining examination admission cards from village officers has become an arduous task amid the disruptions.

Local inhabitants have voiced their complaints about the impact of the damaged bridge on their livelihood, as daily workers and tea cultivators have difficulty transporting their goods, including tea harvests, to markets. This has left many residents in a precarious economic situation.

In an urgent response, community members have constructed a temporary crossing using palm trunks; however, the safety of elderly individuals using the makeshift path is a growing concern. Residents state that this is not a viable long-term solution.

The locally managed bridge, under the jurisdiction of the Pasbage Korale Pradeshiya Sabha, requires immediate attention and repair. Both ruling and opposition political representatives have come together to advocate for the restoration of the bridge, emphasizing the need for prompt remedial measures.

During a protest held on June 6, community leaders underscored the urgency of the situation, calling on the government, led by the President, to swiftly provide alternative solutions to the ongoing troubles. Notably, the local Buddhist clergy and community influencers participated in the rally, reinforcing calls for timely action.

The protest saw participation from national power party representatives, including Southern Provincial Council member Sujeewa Bhashitha and Samagi Jana Balavegaya member Mayura Priyankara, who stood in solidarity with the local populace, reinforcing their demand for immediate reparations.
