තලවකැලේ ප්රාදේශීය ලේකම් කාර්යාලයේ අස්වැසුම භාරව සිටි නිළධාරියා විසින් අස්වැසුම ප්රතිලාභීන්ට ගෙවිය යුතු රු.916000ක මුදල් ප්රතිලාභීන්ට නොගෙවා අස්වැසුම භාරව සිටි නිළධාරියාගේ ඥාති ගිනුමට බැර කර ඇති බවට සිදු කරන ලද විමර්ෂණයකදි අනාවරණය වූ බව පවසමින් තලවකැලේ වැඩ බලන ප්රාදේශීය ලේකම් කාර්යාලයේ සමීර ගම්ලත් මහතා විසින් (07) දින තලවකැලේ පොලිසිය වෙත පැමිණිල්ලක් කර ඇත.
තමන්ට හිමි අස්වැසුමට අදාළ මුදල් නොලැබුණ බවට ප්රතිලාභීන් විසින් ප්රාදේශීය ලේකම්වරයා වෙත කරන ලද පැමිණිල්ලක් මත ප්රාදේශීය ලේකම්වරයා විසින් සිදු කල මූලික විමර්ෂණයකදි එම මුදල් වංචාව සිදු කර ඇති බවට තොරතුරු අනාවරණය වීමත් සමග එම නිළධාරියාගේ වැඩ තහනම් කිරිමට නුවරඑලිය දිස්ත්රික් ලේකම් තුෂාරි තෙන්නකෝන් මහත්මිය පියවර ගෙන ඇත.
එම මුදල් වංචාව සිදු කල නිළධාරියා විසින් වංචාකළේ යැයි කියන රු.916000ක මුදල (07) දින තලවකැලේ ප්රාදේශීය ලේකම්වරයාගේ ගිණුමට ආපසු එම නිළධාරියා විසින් මුදල් බැර කර ඇති බවටද ප්රාදේශිය ලේකම්වරයා විසින් තලවකැලේ පොලිසියට කරන ලද පැමිණිල්ලේ සදහන්ව ඇත.
එම ගිනුම සම්බන්ධයෙන් සම්පූර්ණ විගණනයක් සිදු කර එහි වාර්ථාවක්ද පොලිසිය වෙත ලබා දෙන බව තලවකැලේ ප්රාදේශීය ලේකම්වරයා පොලිසිය හමුවේ පවසා ඇත.
නෝර්වුඩ් ප්රාදේශීය ලේකම් කාර්යාලයේද රු.එක්කෝටි හැට දෙලක්ෂයක මෙවැනිම වංචාවක් සිදු කල නිළධාරිනියන් දෙදෙනෙකු දැනට රක්ෂිත බන්ධනාගාර ගත කර ඇති අතර, තවත් නිළධාරින් තිදෙනෙකු හැටන් පොලිසියේ අපරාධ විමර්ෂණ ඒකකය විසින් අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනීමට නියමිතය.
මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් අප සම්බන්ධීකරණ කමිටුවේ සභාපති සහ නුවරඑලිය දිස්ත්රික් පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්රී මංජුල සුරවිරආරච්චි මහතාගෙන් කල විමසුමකට ඔහු කියා සිටියේ, තලවකැලේ ප්රාදේශීය ලේකම් කාර්යාලයේ සිදු වි ඇති මුදල් වංචාව රු.ලක්ෂ 16ක් පමණ වන බවත්, ඒ සම්බන්ධයෙන් විගණනයක් සිදු කරන බවත්, එයට සමගාමීව නුවරඑලිය දිස්ත්රිකකයේ ප්රාදේශීය ලේකම් කාර්යාල 10කම අස්වැසුම, දිට්වා සහනාධාර, මුදල් ගෙවීම්, සමෘද්ධි ලාභීන්ගේ මුදල් ගෙවීම්, කොරෝනා ව්යසන සමයේ එවකට රජය විසින් ලබා දෙන ලද රු.5000 දීමනාව සහ ප්රතිලාභ නිසි ලෙස ගෙවා නැද්ද යන්න සොයා බැලීමට විගණනයක් සිදු කරන බවයි.

Corruption Scandal in Talawakelle Local Government Office Exposed
A significant case of financial misconduct has emerged from the Talawakelle Local Government Office, where an official responsible for disbursing subsidy payments failed to transfer a sum of Rs. 916,000 to beneficiaries. This breach was brought to light following an investigation by the authorities, which revealed that the funds had been diverted to the official's bank account instead.
Samira Gamalath, the Divisional Secretary overseeing operations in Talawakelle, confirmed that the local office had received complaints from beneficiaries claiming they had not received their entitled subsidies. In response, an initial inquiry was conducted, which uncovered the fraudulent activity concerning the distribution of funds.
As a result of these findings, District Secretary Tushari Tennakoon took immediate action to suspend the implicated official's duties pending further investigation. The fraud involved a sum that was supposed to benefit the local community through subsidy schemes, the details of which have now sparked widespread concern.
This incident is part of a larger trend, as investigations revealed similar fraudulent activities at the Norwood Divisional Secretariat, where two officials have already been detained in connection with a scam amounting to over Rs. 60 million. Furthermore, three other officials are expected to face arrest as the police intensify their inquiries into the matter.
Manjula Surawirathne, chairman of the coordinating committee and Member of Parliament for Nuwara Eliya, commented on the ongoing situation, stating that investigations into the Talawakelle financial misconduct are likely to reveal that approximately Rs. 16 million has been improperly handled. This includes the examination of various subsidy and relief payments administered during the pandemic, alongside a thorough review of the operations within the ten local government offices within the district.
This ongoing investigation is aimed at ensuring that funds meant for vulnerable populations are properly allocated and managed, reinforcing the accountability of public officials entrusted with such responsibilities.
