වී වගා කරන කුඹුරු ඉඩම්වල අතිරේක බෝග වගා කරන ගොවීන්ට මීට පෙර කිසිදු සහනාධාරයක් නොලැබුණු බව සිහිපත් කළ ඒ මහතා, වත්මන් රජය පසුගිය කන්න කිහිපය පුරාම එම ගොවීන්ට අඛණ්ඩව සහනාධාර ලබාදුන් බවත්, ඉදිරියේදී කන්න රැස්වීම්වල තීරණ මත අතිරේක බෝග වගා කරන ගොවීන්ටද පොහොර සහනාධාර ලබාදීමට කටයුතු සූදානම් කර ඇති බවත් අවධාරණය කළේය.

මේ අතර, පොළොන්නරුවේ පැවති උද්ඝෝෂණ සඳහා එක්වූයේ ගොවීන් නොවන වෙනත් වෘත්තිකයන්දැයි මාධ්‍යවේදීන් විමසූ අවස්ථාවේදී අදහස් දැක්වූ ඒ මහතා, පොළොන්නරුව දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ අතිමහත් බහුතරය ගොවි ජනතාව බැවින් එහි ගොවි නොවන පවුලක් සොයා ගැනීම පවා දුෂ්කර බවත්, එවැනි තර්ක හුදු විහිළු සහගත ප්‍රකාශ පමණක් බවත් වැඩිදුරටත් කියා සිටියේය.

Government Denies Allegations of Neglecting Rice Farmers Amidst Ongoing Support Initiatives

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Lands, and Irrigation, Namal Karunaratne, dismissed allegations claiming that the government has failed to provide fertilizer support to farmers who cultivate additional crops on paddy fields. He emphasized that the current administration is providing unprecedented assistance to the agricultural community, surpassing any previous government in history.

Speaking to reporters at the Polonnaruwa District Secretariat, Karunaratne highlighted that while farmers received just 30,000 rupees worth of fertilizer assistance for five acres during the previous regime, the current government has doubled this amount to 60,000 rupees.

He reminded attendees that farmers sowing extra crops on rice paddy lands received no support prior to this administration. However, he pointed out that the government has consistently delivered aid throughout the past planting seasons. Looking ahead, he assured that measures are being prepared to extend fertilizer support to farmers cultivating additional crops, based on decisions made at upcoming district meetings.

On the topic of compensation provided to farmers in the wake of natural disasters, Karunaratne explained, "In the past, farmers received very minimal compensation during such calamities. Under our government, if an individual's crops were damaged ten times, we have taken steps to ensure compensation for each of those incidents. No previous government has acted in this manner."

When questioned by journalists about the participation of non-farmers in protests held in Polonnaruwa, he remarked that finding any family in the district that is not tied to agriculture is a challenge, underscoring the assertion that such claims are mere exaggerations. He labeled that kind of argument as nothing more than "a whimsical statement."
