විසි දෙවන ආණ්ඩුක්රම ව්යවස්ථා සංශෝධන පනත් කෙටුම්පත පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ අද (25) විශේෂ බහුතර ඡන්දයෙන් සම්මත විය.
එම පනත් කෙටුම්පත දෙවන කියවීමේ ඡන්ද විමසීම ප.ව 7.13ට ආරම්භ කෙරුණු අතර එහිදී පක්ෂව ඡන්ද 158 ක්ද, විපක්ෂව ඡන්ද 63 ක්ද හිමි විය. ඒ අනුව විසි දෙවන ආණ්ඩුක්රම ව්යවස්ථා සංශෝධන පනත් කෙටුම්පත පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ විශේෂ බහුතර ඡන්දයෙන් සම්මත විය.
අනතුරුව, කාරක සභා අවස්ථාවේදී දෙවන වගන්තියට ගෙන එන ලද සංශෝධන ද පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ විශේෂ බහුතර ඡන්දයෙන් සම්මත විය. එම සංශෝධනවලට පක්ෂව ඡන්ද 158 ක් ද, විපක්ෂව ඡන්ද 63 ක් ද හිමි විය.
පනත් කෙටුම්පත තෙවන වර කියවීමේදී පක්ෂව ඡන්ද 158 ක් ද, විපක්ෂව ඡන්ද 63ක් ද ලැබුණු අතර, ඒ අනුව පනත් කෙටුම්පත තෙවන වර කියවීම පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ විශේෂ බහුතර ඡන්දයෙන් සම්මත විය.
එමෙන්ම, අධිකරණ සංවිධාන (සංශෝධන) පනත් කෙටුම්පත ද පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ අද වැඩි ජන්දයෙන් සම්මතකෙරිණි. එම පනත් කෙටුම්පත දෙවන වර කියවීමේ ඡන්ද විමසීම ප.ව 7.53ට ආරම්භ කෙරුණු අතර එහිදී පක්ෂව ඡන්ද 158ක්ද, විපක්ෂව ඡන්ද 63 ක්ද හිමි විය.
එම පනත් කෙටුම්පත තෙවන වර කියවීමේ ඡන්ද විමසීමේදී පක්ෂව ඡන්ද 158 ක්ද විපක්ෂව ඡන්ද 62 ක්ද, හිමි විය. ඒ අනුව අධිකරණ සංවිධාන (සංශෝධන) පනත් කෙටුම්පත තෙවන වර කියවීම වැඩි ඡන්ද 96 කින් පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ දී සංශෝධන රහිතව සම්මත විය.
විසි දෙවන ආණ්ඩුක්රම ව්යවස්ථා සංශෝධන පනත් කෙටුම්පත සහ අධිකරණ සංවිධාන (සංශෝධන) පනත් කෙටුම්පත යන පනත් කෙටුම්පත් දෙක අධිකරණ සහ ජාතික ඒකාබද්ධතා අමාත්යවරයා විසින් 2026 අගෝස්තු 18 වැනි දින පළමු වර කියවීම සඳහා පාර්ලිමේන්තුවට ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලදී. එම පනත් කෙටුම්පත් දෙක සම්බන්ධයෙන් දෙවන වර කියවීමේ විවාදය ඊයේ (24) සහ අද (25) පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේදී පැවැත්විණි.
Constitutional Amendment Passed with Significant Support in Parliament
A landmark constitutional amendment, designated as the 22nd, has successfully passed through Parliament, garnering overwhelming support in a special vote that witnessed a two-thirds majority.
The amendment was supported by 158 votes, while 63 votes were cast against it, showcasing a clear division in opinion among lawmakers. Notably, there were no abstentions during the voting process.

2. Increase the retirement age of Court of Appeal judges to 65 years from 63.
3. Chief Justice would retire upon reaching 67 years or upon completion of six years from the date of appointment.
4. Six-year limitation on the term of office of Chief Justice would not apply to incumbent Chief Justice.
5. Increase the maximum number of other judges of the Court of Appeal from 19 to 24.
The Supreme Court also determined that the provisions of the Judicature (Amendment) Bill are not inconsistent with the Constitution and can be passed by the simple majority of Parliament.
The main provisions of the Judicature (Amendment) Bill
1. Increase the number of Judges of the High Court from 110 to 120.
2. Increase the retirement age of High Court judges to 63 years from 61.
3. Increase the retirement age of other judges and Magistrates to 62 years.
Why couldn't the media share this information earlier. People only heard 1 or 2 provisions and not all and the government and all responsible media kept things suspense. Information like this must be transparent and people should be informed.
