Explosion Reported Near Riyadh’s Main International Airport Amid Heightened Security Concerns

A massive black plume of smoke has been witnessed rising into the sky near Riyadh's primary international airport, accompanied by loud explosions, according to a report by Reuters.

Saudi authorities issued emergency alerts to residents via mobile phones last night, warning of a severe risk of airstrikes. This notification came shortly before the explosions occurred.

Video footage and images from Reuters reveal thick black smoke billowing into the air near the airport's access road and prominent high-rise buildings. There are also indications of flames erupting from what is believed to be a fuel storage tank nearby.

So far, the Saudi government media office has not provided an official response regarding this incident, despite inquiries from Reuters.

This event marks the first emergency alert issued in light of an escalating military atmosphere between the US and Iran. Despite prior warnings issued earlier this month, the situation intensified significantly after clashes with Houthi forces in July, raising the current threat level.

The Iran-aligned Houthi rebels, who control regions including northern Yemen with dense populations, began targeting Saudi vessels in the Red Sea following their declaration of a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia last July.

The attacks, aimed at Saudi cities and energy infrastructure, pose a serious threat not only to the maritime routes in the Red Sea but also jeopardize global oil supplies and alternative trade routes in the region.
