Former Chairman Joins Lanka Workers' Congress After Departure from Samagi Jana Balawegaya
Alagamuthu Nandakumar, the former chairman of the Hatton-Dickoya Urban Council and current councillor representing the National Workers' Union, has officially joined the Lanka Workers' Congress (CWC). His transition to the new political party took place on the 30th during a special religious ceremony held at the 'Saumyabhavan' in Colombo, commemorating the 27th death anniversary of the late Saumya Moorthy Thondaman.
The decision to join CWC came in the presence of prominent party leaders, including General Secretary and Member of Parliament Jeevan Thondaman, Chairman Senthil Thondaman, and Treasurer Maruthapandi Rameshwaran. Nandakumar's membership was announced amid the tributes paid to Thondaman, marking a significant moment for both the individual and the party.
Nandakumar has previously served as an urban councillor for the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB). However, he was recently involved in disciplinary issues within his former party, which led to his immediate expulsion. The General Secretary of the National Workers' Union, S. Nagules, confirmed this situation, stating that Nandakumar's violation of party discipline prompted the SJB leadership to notify him of his removal on the same day.
As part of his new political stance, Nandakumar’s move to the CWC signifies a pivotal change in the local political landscape of Hatton-Dickoya, where he has been actively involved. His departure from the SJB signals shifting alliances that may impact future electoral dynamics.
