Power Outages to End Today, Full Restoration Expected Tomorrow
The nation-wide power cuts implemented during the evening hours are set to conclude today, according to Government Spokesman and Minister of Health and Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.
Looking ahead, Dr. Jayatissa expressed optimism that electricity supply will return to normal by tomorrow, assuring citizens that uninterrupted power will be provided across the country starting then.
The root cause of the power cuts was a sudden technical failure at a crucial power generating facility, which forced authorities to manage generation capacity during peak demand periods at night.
In response, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) granted permission for a planned electricity blackout, effective from the 19th to the 21st of this month, lasting one hour each day between 4:30 PM and nightfall, across major regions to ensure system stability.
With electrical engineers swiftly implementing measures to restore the offline generation systems, the national power grid is expected to operate normally without any disruptions from today onward.
