Gas Supply Disruption Set to Resolve by Tuesday, Says Litro Gas
The recent disruption in gas supply affecting several regions is expected to be fully resolved by Tuesday, according to Litro Gas Lanka Limited. The company has expedited distribution efforts following the arrival of new gas-carrying vessels in the country.
In recent days, gas distribution outlets across various cities have displayed signs indicating a lack of gas, while customers with empty cylinders were seen waiting in long queues, facing significant hardships.
Reports indicate that retailers are receiving only a limited number of gas cylinders, which has hampered daily cooking tasks for many households unable to access gas for several days. Frustrations among the public have been mounting as they struggle with this shortage.
In a statement, Litro acknowledged the disruptions in gas supply and assured that all necessary measures are being taken to rectify the issues swiftly. A vessel carrying a cargo of 3,900 metric tons of gas has already arrived, with another vessel, containing an equivalent amount, expected to reach Sri Lanka today, the 18th.
The Chairman of Litro Gas, Channa Gunawardena, noted that the shortage was primarily due to a two-day halt in distribution operations. He confirmed that 85,000 household gas cylinders of 12.5 kilograms each will be released into the market tomorrow, with plans to distribute one million cylinders daily starting next Monday. Gunawardena expressed confidence that this would eliminate the gas shortage by next Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Nalin Kurukulasuriya, the Chairman of Laugfs Gas, announced that two vessels carrying 3,800 and 3,500 metric tons of gas, respectively, are scheduled to arrive on October 20 and 24. With their arrival, Laugfs Gas aims to restore normal distribution levels promptly.
