Former Minister Rohitha Bogollagama Remanded in Custody Amid Ongoing Trial

In a significant development, former Minister Rohitha Bogollagama has been ordered by Colombo High Court Judge Ragunath Godawela to be remanded in custody until the conclusion of his ongoing trial. This ruling comes after Bogollagama failed to appear before the court during proceedings related to serious corruption charges.

The High Court had previously issued an open warrant for his arrest, prompting action by officials from the commission investigating allegations of bribery and corruption. Following his apprehension, he was presented to the court where the remand order was issued.

The case against Bogollagama stems from his involvement in a public service investment promotion event held in London, where he allegedly pressured the chairman of the investment promotion body into making payments exceeding five million rupees, violating state fiscal regulations.

His prolonged evasion of the court proceedings has raised significant concerns, leading the High Court to take firm action against him by issuing warrants in this manner.
