US Partners with Sri Lanka Port Authority for Digital Transformation
The United States is collaborating with the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) to introduce new digital systems aimed at enhancing port operations. The initiative is designed to expedite cargo transport while reducing delays and costs associated with shipping through the use of American technology.
This project underscores a commitment to bolster global trade by facilitating cooperation with American businesses, securing the U.S. supply chain, and expanding commercial opportunities between the United States and Sri Lanka.
Funded through American resources, the initiative will aid the SLPA in developing two key digital systems: the Port Community System and the Maritime Single Window. These platforms will allow shipping companies, customs officials, and port operators to electronically exchange information, thereby replacing inefficient paper-based processes and streamlining operations.
Colombo Port handles approximately $30 billion worth of goods annually linked to the United States, making it a crucial trade hub.
This event was attended by a delegation led by U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Eric T. Johnson, alongside Minister of Ports and Shipping, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, and Chairman of the SLPA, Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake, along with various senior officials.
