අනගාරික ධර්මපාලතුමාට ඉන්දියාවේ බුද්ධගයාව බේරාගැනීමේ මහා ව්‍යාපාරයට අවශ්‍ය ආර්ථික ශක්තිය සැපයූ සමීපතම මිතුරකු වූ, මහාබෝධි වත්තේ ‘කොන්දොස්තර මහතා’ ලෙස ප්‍රකට ලුවිස් කොන්දොස්තර මහතා තම මව් පාර්ශ්වයේ මුත්තණුවන් (සීයා) බව අමාත්‍යවරයා හෙළි කළේය.

හිනිදුම පන්සලේ ඇති සිතුවම්වල කර්නල් හෙන්රි ස්ටීල් ඕල්කට්තුමා සහ අනගාරික ධර්මපාලතුමන් සමඟ තම මුත්තණුවන්ගේ රුව ද ආඩම්බරයෙන් සටහන්ව ඇති බව ඔහු පැවසීය.

තම පියාගේ ගම මාපලගම වන අතර, පියාගේ එකකුස උපන් සහෝදරයන් 15 දෙනා අතරින් එක් අයෙකු වන්නේ ප්‍රවීණ යතිවරයෙකු වූ මාපලගම සිරිවිමල හිමියන් බවත්, උන්වහන්සේ මාපලගම සිරි සාගර නාහිමි සහ බද්දේගම විමලවංශ නාහිමියන්ගේ ශිෂ්‍ය හිමිනමක් බවත් අමාත්‍යවරයා සඳහන් කළේය.

අනගාරික ධර්මපාලතුමාගේ මෑණියන් වන මල්ලිකා හේවාවිතාරණ මැතිනිය සිහිවීම පිණිස නම් කෙරුණු හිනිදුම මල්ලිකා මහා විද්‍යාලයේ වසර 13ක් පුරා අධ්‍යාපනය ලබමින් හැදී වැඩුණු තමන්ගේ මුළු ජීවිතයම ගෙවී ගියේ පන්සල සහ බෞද්ධ වටපිටාව ඇසුරේ බව ඔහු පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.

තම බෞද්ධ පසුබිම හෝ පැවැත්ම පිළිබඳව කිසිවෙකු ප්‍රශ්න කරන්නේ නම්, ඒ පිළිබඳව අතිපූජ්‍ය අනුනායක හිමිවරුන්ගෙන් හෝ ත්‍රිකුණාමලයේ ආනන්ද නායක හිමිපාණන් වහන්සේ වැනි ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ මහා සංඝරත්නයෙන් විමසා සත්‍යය තහවුරු කරගත හැකි බව ද අමාත්‍යවරයා පැවසීය. සමාජය නොමඟ යවන හෝ මෝහය වපුරන කෙටි ගමන්වලට කිසිදු අනාගතයක් නොමැති බවත්, සැබෑ බෞද්ධ දර්ශනය පෙරදැරි කරගත් ආලෝකමත් සමාජයක් නිර්මාණය කිරීම තම ඒකායන අරමුණ බවත් ආචාර්ය හිනිදුම සුනිල් සෙනෙවි මහතා වැඩිදුරටත් අවධාරණය කර සිටියේය.

Buddhist Identity Under Threat Amid Revival Efforts, Minister Warns

In a poignant reflection on the intertwinement of personal and familial history with the historic Buddhist revival efforts, Minister of Buddhist Affairs, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senewi, emphasized concerns over assaults on Buddhist identity propagated by certain factions.

During a gathering at Sangharatana, the Minister pointed to the teachings of the Buddha, particularly the "Thamothama Parayana Sutra," to highlight the government's commitment to steering the nation towards an era of enlightenment rather than remaining in darkness. He lamented that some segments of society have deviated to the extent of becoming akin to “wild beasts,” neglecting profound policy paths amidst a climate of disarray.

Dr. Hiniduma revealed that he has familial ties to the late Louis Condos, known affectionately as "Kondosaththra Mahaththaya," who was a pivotal ally in the monumental endeavor to safeguard the Buddhist site of Buddhagaya in India.

He proudly shared that he is depicted alongside prominent figures such as Colonel Henry Steel Olcott and Anagarika Dharmapala in the artworks housed at the temple, which signifies a historical lineage of dedication to Buddhist principles.

The Minister noted that his father's family roots trace back to Mapalagama, highlighting that one of his 15 siblings was a revered monk, Sri Vimala of Mapalagama, a disciple of the well-respected monks Sri Sagara and Baddegama Wimala Wansha.

Reflecting on the legacy of Anagarika Dharmapala, Dr. Hiniduma recounted how his own life has been shaped by the Buddhist environment during his 13 years of education at Mallika Maha Vidyalaya, a school named in honor of his mother, Mallika Hewavitarana.

Addressing challenges to his Buddhist heritage, the Minister affirmed that inquiries can be directed to the venerable Anunayaka Theros or other high-ranking monks from the Thrikunamalaya chapter, who can attest to his lineage and commitments. He underscored the lack of future for societies swayed by illusion, advocating for the creation of a genuinely enlightened community grounded in authentic Buddhist philosophy as his overarching goal.
