කාවන්තිස්ස ඇතාට වරදක් වෙලානම් ඒක මම බාර ගන්නවා..- පරිසර ඇමති

රෝගාතුරව ප්‍රතිකාර ලබමින් සිටියදී මියගිය ‘කාවන්තිස්ස’ හස්තියාගේ සිදුවීමට අදාළව යම් වරදක් හෝ අතපසුවීමක් සිදුව ඇත්නම්, විෂයභාර අමාත්‍යවරයා වශයෙන් එහි මූලික වගකීම තමන් භාරගැනීමට සූදානම් බව පරිසර අමාත්‍ය ධම්මික පටබැඳි මහතා පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේදී ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.

පාර්ලිමේන්තු සභාවාරය අමතමින් අමාත්‍යවරයා අවධාරණය කළේ, රෝගීව සිටි කාවන්තිස්ස හස්තියා සුවපත් කිරීම සඳහා වගකිවයුතු සියලු අංශ අතිශය මානුෂීය හැඟීමකින් යුතුව මැදිහත් වූ බවයි.

"කාවන්තිස්ස හස්තියාට ප්‍රතිකාර කරද්දී අපේ කණ්ඩායම් සැලකුවේ ඔහු සාමාන්‍ය වනජීවී සත්වයෙක් හැටියට නෙවෙයි. ඔහු අපේම කෙනෙක්, අපේම මනුස්සයෙක් හැටියට සලකමිනුයි සියලු වෛද්‍ය කණ්ඩායම් ඒ මොහොතේ මැදිහත් වුණේ. ඒ තරම් වෙහෙස මහන්සි වී කටයුතු කරලත්, අවසානයේ ඔහුගේ රෝගී තත්ත්වය සුවපත් කරගැනීමට නොහැකි වීම අප කාටත් දරාගත නොහැකි දැඩි වේදනාවක් සහ කම්පනයක්," යැයිද අමාත්‍යවරයා එහිදී කියා සිටියේය.

Minister Takes Responsibility for Death of 'Kavantissa' Elephant

In a heartfelt address to Parliament, Minister of Environment Dhamika Patabandige expressed his willingness to accept accountability for any lapses that may have contributed to the tragic death of the sick 'Kavantissa' elephant during its treatment.

Speaking during the parliamentary session, the minister emphasized that every involved party acted with a profound sense of humanity while trying to save Kavantissa. He acknowledged the collective effort made to nurse the ailing elephant back to health.

"Our team approached the treatment of Kavantissa not merely as a wild animal but as one of our own. He was part of us, and every medical team member treated him as a companion – as if he were a human being," Patabandige stated. He lamented that despite the tireless efforts put forth, the inability to heal the elephant brought immense sorrow and shock to all involved.
