Temporary Ban on Private Bus Operations Following Collision with Metro Bus in Athurugiriya
Authorities have imposed a temporary ban on the operations of a private bus following a collision with a metro bus in the Athurugiriya area. The incident took place on the morning of the 8th at approximately 5:20 AM, in front of the 170 bus halt in the city.
The private bus, designated 'NC-9510', was maneuvering in reverse on the main road to halt at the bus stop when it collided with a metro bus, marked 'CM 02', traveling from Millennium City to Colombo.
The accident resulted in the private bus obstructing the road for several hours, causing significant inconvenience to passengers who were on their way to work in the early morning hours.
Interestingly, just three days prior to this incident, the same private bus was reportedly involved in damaging the side mirror of another metro bus, further raising concerns over its operational standards.
In response to the collision, the Athurugiriya police intervened, prompting a thorough inspection of the private bus by a motor vehicle examiner. The inspection confirmed that the bus had not been maintained according to required standards, which led to the enforcement of the temporary ban.
Both drivers involved in the accident have been sent for medical examinations, with reports confirming that neither had consumed any narcotics. Full documentation of the incident, supplemented by CCTV footage, is set to be submitted to the Kaduwela Magistrate's Court for further proceedings.
