Women Demand Rights for Plantation Workers in Bagawanthalawa
A group of women staged a march and protest in the town of Bagawanthalawa on October 18, advocating for the rights of plantation workers. The demonstration, organized by a women's association focused on economic issues, aimed to highlight several critical demands.
During the protest, participants emphasized the necessity of formulating policies for environmental agriculture. They called for the preservation of unpaid labor rights, protection of housing and land rights for plantation workers, and safeguarding seed rights for farmers. The message was clear: a rejection of harmful pesticides and a call for solutions to the ongoing crisis in microfinance were also focal points of the gathering.
Led by activist Ranjith Rajapaksha, the event showcased the urgent need for reform in the plantation sector, advocating for equitable treatment and rights for all workers involved.
