දිවයින පුරා පිහිටි ජනාධිපති මන්දිර සඳහා ජනාධිපතිවරයා නවාතැන් ගැනීමට නොගියද, පසුගිය වසරේදී පමණක් විවිධ පුද්ගලයින් 3,089 දෙනෙකු එම මන්දිරවල නවාතැන් ගෙන ඇති බව ජාතික විගණන කාර්යාලය නිකුත් කළ අලුත්ම වාර්තාවක් උපුටමින් සති අන්ත ලංකාදීප පුවත්පත වාර්තා කරයි.

මෙම වාර්තාවට අනුව, දිවයිනේ විවිධ ප්‍රදේශවල පිහිටි ජනාධිපති මන්දිර හතක විදුලිය, දුරකථන ඇතුළු අනෙකුත් පහසුකම් වෙනුවෙන් පසුගිය වසරේදී පමණක් රුපියල් තුන් කෝටි තිස් ලක්ෂයකට (මිලියන 33.5) ආසන්න මුදලක් වැය කර ඇත. විශේෂත්වය වන්නේ මෙම මන්දිර හත තුළම පසුගිය වසරේදී පවත්වා ඇත්තේ රැස්වීම් තුනක් පමණක් වීමයි.

කතරගම, මහියංගණය සහ බෙන්තොට යන ප්‍රදේශවල පිහිටි ජනාධිපති මන්දිරවල පසුගිය වසරේදී කිසිදු රැස්වීමක් පවත්වා නොමැති අතර කිසිවෙකු නවාතැන් ගෙන ද නැත. එසේ තිබියදීත් එම මන්දිරවල නඩත්තු කටයුතු සහ උපයෝගිතා ගාස්තු වෙනුවෙන් රුපියල් ලක්ෂ විස්සකට ආසන්න මුදලක් වැය කර ඇති බව විගණන වාර්තාව පෙන්වා දෙයි.

කොළඹ කොටුව, මහනුවර, අනුරාධපුරය, කතරගම, මහියංගණය, නුවරඑළිය සහ බෙන්තොට යන ප්‍රදේශවල මෙම මන්දිර පිහිටා ඇත. වත්මන් ජනාධිපතිවරයා මෙම මන්දිර සිය පෞද්ගලික පරිහරණය සඳහා යොදා නොගැනීමට ප්‍රතිපත්තීමය තීරණයක් ගෙන තිබේ. ඒ අනුව කොළඹ කොටුව ජනාධිපති මන්දිරය රාජ්‍යතාන්ත්‍රික හමුවීම් සඳහාත්, මහනුවර මන්දිරය පෙරහැර ඇතුළු සංස්කෘතික කටයුතු සඳහාත් පමණක් සීමා කර ඇත.

විගණන වාර්තාවට අනුව පසුගිය වසර නවයක කාලය තුළ මෙම මන්දිර නඩත්තු කිරීම සහ අලුත්වැඩියා කටයුතු වෙනුවෙන් රජය රුපියල් කෝටි 35කට අධික මුදලක් වැය කර තිබේ.

මෙම තත්ත්වය පිළිබඳව අදහස් දක්වන අග්‍රාමාත්‍ය ආචාර්ය හරිනි අමරසූරිය මහත්මිය පෙන්වා දෙන්නේ, ඉදිරිපත් වී ඇති කමිටු නිර්දේශයන්ට අනුව කොළඹ කොටුව සහ මහනුවර මන්දිර හැර සෙසු සියලුම ජනාධිපති මන්දිර ඉදිරියේදී ආර්ථිකමය වශයෙන් ඵලදායී ව්‍යාපෘති සඳහා යෙදවීමට රජය පියවර ගන්නා බවයි. මහජන මුදල් අවභාවිතය වැළැක්වීම සහ මෙම දේපළවලින් රටට ආදායමක් ලබා ගැනීම මෙහි මූලික අරමුණ වී තිබේ.

Misuse of Presidential Residences Revealed in Recent Audit Report

A new audit report from the National Audit Office has brought to light a concerning revelation about presidential residences across the country. Despite the President's decision not to occupy these residences, a staggering 3,089 individuals reportedly utilized them over the past year, according to a report published by the Sunday Lanka Deepa newspaper.

The findings indicate that the government spent approximately Rs. 330 million (around USD 1.5 million) last year solely on utilities such as electricity and telephone services for the seven presidential residences situated throughout the country. Notably, only three official gatherings took place within these residences during the past year.

The residences in Kataragama, Mahiyangana, and Bentota did not host any events in the past year, and as a result, no guests stayed there. Nevertheless, the maintenance and utility costs for these residences amounted to nearly Rs. 2 million, as highlighted in the audit report.

These presidential residences are located in Colombo Kotuwa, Kandy, Anuradhapura, Kataragama, Mahiyangana, Nuwara Eliya, and Bentota. The current President has adopted a policy decision to refrain from using these residences for personal purposes. Consequently, the Colombo Kotuwa residence has been designated exclusively for state functions, while the Kandy residence is reserved for parades and cultural activities.

According to the audit report, over the past year, the government has invested more than Rs. 350 million in the maintenance and repair of these residences.

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya expressed views on this matter, emphasizing that, in line with the recommendations presented, the government plans to repurpose all presidential residences for economically beneficial projects, except for the Colombo Kotuwa and Kandy residences. The primary objective is to prevent the misuse of public funds and generate revenue for the country from these properties.
