පොලිසිය වගේ හොරු අමතයි

 පොලිස් නිලධාරීන්ගේ ඡායාරූප අවභාවිත කරමින්, ව්‍යාජ සමාජ මාධ්‍ය ගිණුම් හරහා සිදුකරනු ලබන මහා පරිමාණ මූල්‍ය වංචාවන් පිළිබඳව පොලිස් මූලස්ථානය මහජනතාවට විශේෂ අනතුරු ඇඟවීමක් නිකුත් කර තිබේ.

වංචනික පුද්ගලයන් විසින් WhatsApp සහ Telegram වැනි යෙදුම් ඔස්සේ පොලිස් නිලධාරීන්ගේ රූප සහිත ව්‍යාජ ගිණුම් සකස් කර, තමන් ශ්‍රී ලංකා මහ බැංකුවේ, අපරාධ පරීක්ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ (CID) හෝ පොලිස් විමර්ශන ඒකකවල නිලධාරීන් ලෙස හඳුන්වා දෙමින් මෙම ජාවාරම මෙහෙයවන බව පොලිසිය පවසයි.

මෙම ජාවාරම්කරුවන් දුරකථන ඇමතුම් ලබා දෙමින් පවසන්නේ අදාළ පුද්ගලයාගේ ජාතික හැඳුනුම්පත භාවිතා කරමින් මූල්‍ය වංචාවක් හෝ මුදල් විශුද්ධිකරණ (Money Laundering) ක්‍රියාවක් සිදු වී ඇති බවයි. ඉන් අනතුරුව නීතිමය පියවර ගන්නා බවට බිය ගන්වන මොවුන්, එම ගැටලුවලින් නිදහස් වීමට නම් බැංකු ගිණුම්වලට ඇතුළු වීමට අවශ්‍ය රහස් අංක (OTP) ලබා දෙන ලෙස හෝ වෙනත් ගිණුම්වලට මුදල් බැර කරන ලෙස බලපෑම් කරයි. ඇතැම් අවස්ථාවලදී Cryptocurrency (USDT) හරහා මුදල් ලබා ගැනීමට ද මොවුන් උත්සාහ කරන බව නිරීක්ෂණය වී ඇත.

තම විශ්වාසනීයත්වය තහවුරු කිරීම සඳහා ව්‍යාජ නිල ලාංඡන, ලිපි ශීර්ෂ සහ ව්‍යාජ අත්සන් සහිත ලේඛන සමාජ මාධ්‍ය හරහා යොමු කිරීමට ද මෙම වංචනිකයන් කටයුතු කරයි.

ශ්‍රී ලංකා පොලිසිය අවධාරණය කරන්නේ කිසිදු රජයේ ආයතනයක් හෝ පොලිසිය විසින් දුරකථන ඇමතුම් හෝ WhatsApp පණිවිඩ හරහා පුද්ගලික බැංකු තොරතුරු, OTP අංක හෝ මුදල් තැන්පත් කරන ලෙස ඉල්ලා නොසිටින බවයි. නිල දැනුම්දීමක් සිදු කරන්නේ නම් ඒ සඳහා ලිඛිත ලිපියක් යොමු කරන අතර, අවශ්‍ය අවස්ථාවලදී නිල ඇඳුමින් සැරසුණු නිලධාරීන් සෘජුවම පැමිණෙන බවද පොලිසිය සිහිපත් කරයි.

එබැවින්, නන්නාඳුනන පුද්ගලයන් විසින් එවනු ලබන අන්තර්ජාල දිගු (Links) ක්ලික් කිරීමෙන් හෝ QR කේත ස්කෑන් කිරීමෙන් වළකින ලෙසත්, කිසිදු විටෙක තම බැංකු තොරතුරු නන්නාඳුනන පාර්ශව වෙත ලබා නොදෙන ලෙසත් පොලිසිය ඉල්ලා සිටී.

යම් හෙයකින් මෙවැනි වංචාවකට හසු වුවහොත් හෝ එවැනි සැකකටයුතු ඇමතුමක් ලැබුණහොත් වහාම  පරිගණක අපරාධ විමර්ශන කොට්ඨාසය දැනුවත් කරන ලෙස පොලිසිය වැඩිදුරටත් දන්වා සිටියි.

Police Warns Public About Widespread Financial Fraud via Social Media

The Sri Lankan police have issued a critical warning to the public regarding a surge in financial scams being executed through fake social media accounts that misuse police officers’ photographs. These fraudulent operations are reportedly being carried out on platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram.

According to officials, con artists are creating counterfeit accounts using images of law enforcement personnel, masquerading as agents from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), or police investigative units. Through these impersonations, they typically initiate scams while claiming that financial fraud or money laundering activities have been detected involving the victim's national identity card.

These scammers often instill fear by threatening legal consequences unless the victim provides sensitive information such as one-time passwords (OTPs) or transfers money into other accounts to "resolve" the alleged issues. In some cases, there are reports of attempts to receive funds through cryptocurrency transactions, particularly USDT.

To bolster their credibility, these fraudulent actors are also sharing fake official documents, complete with counterfeit logos, letterheads, and signatures over social media.

The police emphasize that no legitimate government agency or police unit will request personal banking information, OTPs, or solicit deposits through phone calls or WhatsApp messages. Official notifications will only be sent in writing, and in cases where direct interaction is necessary, it will be conducted by officers dressed in official uniforms.

Authorities urge the public to be cautious and to refrain from clicking on unknown links or scanning QR codes sent by unidentified individuals. Individuals are also advised never to share their banking details with unrecognized parties.

In the event of encountering such scams or receiving suspicious calls, the police are reminding citizens to promptly report these incidents to the Computer Crimes Investigation Division.
