විනිසුරුවරුන්ගේ විශ්‍රාම වයස දීර්ඝ කිරීමේ යෝජනාවට එරෙහි වීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් තමන්ට එරෙහිව විනය පියවර ගැනීමට ජාතික ජන බලවේගයට නීතිමය පදනමක් නොමැති බව එම පක්ෂයේ විධායක සභික, නීතීඥ ලාල් විජේනායක මහතා පවසයි.

මාධ්‍ය වෙත අදහස් දක්වමින් ඔහු සඳහන් කළේ, මෙම ආන්දෝලනාත්මක යෝජනාව සම්බන්ධයෙන් ජාතික ජන බලවේගයේ කිසිදු කමිටුවක මෙතෙක් සාකච්ඡා කර නොමැති අතර පක්ෂය ඒ පිළිබඳව නිල තීරණයක් ද ගෙන නොමැති බවයි.

පක්ෂය තීරණයක් ගෙන නොමැති කරුණක් සම්බන්ධයෙන් අදහස් දැක්වීම පක්ෂ විනය උල්ලංඝනය කිරීමක් ලෙස සැලකිය නොහැකි බව ඔහු පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.

මෙම ක්‍රියාව රජයට එරෙහිව සිදුකරන සටනක් නොව, අධිකරණයේ ස්වාධීනත්වය සුරැකීම වෙනුවෙන් සිදුකරන අරගලයක් බව විජේනායක මහතා අවධාරණය කළේය.

"අධිකරණයේ ස්වාධීනත්වය නොමැති පරිසරයක කිසිදු නීතීඥවරයෙකුට සිය වෘත්තියේ නිරත විය නොහැකියි. නඩුවක තීන්දුව කුමක්දැයි කල්තියා දන්නා තත්ත්වයක් තුළ නීතීඥ වෘත්තිය පවත්වාගෙන යාම කළ නොහැක්කක්," යැයි ද ඔහු පැවසීය.

විනිසුරුවරුන්ගේ විශ්‍රාම වයස දීර්ඝ කිරීමේ යෝජනාව සම්බන්ධයෙන් ප්‍රසිද්ධියේ අදහස් දැක්වීමෙන් වැළකී නිහඬව සිටින ලෙස ජාතික ජන බලවේගයේ නායකත්වය තමන්ගෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටි බව ද ඔහු මීට පෙර අනාවරණය කර තිබුණි.

විනිසුරුවරුන්ගේ විශ්‍රාම වයස දීර්ඝ කිරීමට එරෙහිව ඊයේ පැවැති ශ්‍රී ලංකා නීතීඥ සංගමයේ විශේෂ මහා සභා රැස්වීමට ද ලාල් විජේනායක මහතා සහභාගී වී සිටියේය.

Legal Foundations Lacking for Disciplinary Action Against Opposition to Judges' Retirement Age Extension

Lal Vijeyanayake, an executive member and legal advisor of the National People's Power (NPP), has asserted that there is no legal basis for the party to take disciplinary action against those opposing the proposal to extend the retirement age of judges. In remarks made to the media, he emphasized that no committee within the NPP has discussed this controversial proposal to date, and the party has not made any formal decision regarding it.

He pointed out that offering opinions on a matter where the party has yet to make a decision should not be seen as a violation of party discipline. "This is not a struggle against the government but an effort to preserve the independence of the judiciary," Vijeyanayake stressed.

He elaborated on the grave implications of a lack of judicial independence, stating, "In an environment void of judicial independence, no lawyer can practice their profession. It is untenable to continue a legal career under conditions where one cannot predict the outcome of a case."

Previously, he had disclosed that the leadership of the NPP had requested him to remain silent on public expressions regarding the proposed extension of judges' retirement age.

Vijeyanayake also participated in a special general meeting of the Sri Lanka Bar Association held yesterday, which addressed the issue of extending the retirement age for judges.
