2026 වසර සඳහා පළමු ශ්‍රේණියට සිසුන් ඇතුළත් කිරීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් නිකුත් කර ඇති නව චක්‍රලේඛය මගින් රජයේ පාසල් පද්ධතිය තුළ බරපතළ ගැටලු රැසක් නිර්මාණය වී ඇති බව ලංකා ගුරු සේවා සංගමයේ සභාපති ප්‍රියන්ත ප්‍රනාන්දු මහතා පවසයි.

මාධ්‍ය හමුවකට එක්වෙමින් ඔහු පෙන්වා දුන්නේ, රජයේ පාසල්වලට ඇතුළත් වන සිසුන් සංඛ්‍යාව ක්‍රමයෙන් පහත වැටෙමින් පවතින අතර, පෞද්ගලික අධ්‍යාපනය කෙරෙහි සිසුන් යොමුවීමේ ප්‍රබල ප්‍රවණතාවක් දක්නට ලැබෙන බවයි.

2023 වසරේදී පෞද්ගලික පාසල්වල සිසුන් එක්ලක්ෂ අසූ හයදහසක් පමණ සිටි අතර, 2025 වසර අවසාන වන විට එම සංඛ්‍යාව ලක්ෂ තුන දක්වා ඉහළ යනු ඇතැයි ඔහු පුරෝකථනය කළේය.

රජය පවසන පරිදි මෙය දරු උපත් අඩුවීම නිසා පමණක් සිදුවන්නක් නොවන බවත්, රජයේ ප්‍රතිපත්ති මගින් පෞද්ගලික අධ්‍යාපනය වක්‍රව දිරිමත් කරන බවත් ඔහු චෝදනා කළේය.

පන්ති කාමරයක සිටිය යුතු සිසුන් සංඛ්‍යාව 35 දක්වා සීමා කරන ලෙස අධිකරණ නියෝගයක් පවතිද්දී, නව චක්‍රලේඛය මගින් එම සංඛ්‍යාව 40 දක්වා ඉහළ නංවා ඇති බව ද ඔහු සඳහන් කළේය.

එමෙන්ම, කිලෝමීටර් 3ක් ඇතුළත 'හොඳම පාසල' ලබා දෙන බවට රජය පොරොන්දු වුවද, කිලෝමීටර් 50-60ක් ඈතින් සිටින සිසුන්ට ජනප්‍රිය පාසල්වලට ඇතුළත් වීමට අවස්ථාව සලසා දී ඇති බවත්, ඒ අතරතුර කිලෝමීටර් 5ක් ඇතුළත පිහිටි පාසල් වසා දැමීමට රජය කටයුතු කරන බවත් ඔහු පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.

විශ්වවිද්‍යාල ආචාර්යවරුන්ගේ දරුවන් සඳහා වෙන් කර ඇති 6% ක කෝටාව සම්බන්ධයෙන් ද අදහස් දැක්වූ ප්‍රනාන්දු මහතා, එය අධ්‍යාපන අමාත්‍යාංශයට සෘජුවම සම්බන්ධ අනෙකුත් සේවකයින්ට සිදු කරන අසාධාරණයක් බව පැවසීය.

Concerns Rise Over New Enrollment Policy in Sri Lankan Government Schools

A new circular regarding student admissions for the first grade in 2026 is exacerbating significant issues within the government school system, according to Priyantha Pranandu, President of the Lanka Teacher Services Union.

Speaking at a media briefing, Pranandu highlighted a troubling decline in the number of students entering government schools, coupled with a noticeable trend toward private education. He reported that enrollment in private schools stood at approximately 106,000 in 2023 and predicted this figure could soar to 300,000 by the end of 2025.

He argued that the ongoing decline is not solely a result of decreasing birth rates but is also influenced by government policies that appear to be inadvertently promoting private education options.

Pranandu pointed out that while there’s a court order limiting the number of students per classroom to 35, the new circular increases this cap to 40 students. This adjustment raises concerns about overcrowding and its impact on educational quality.

He further noted that although the government has promised access to 'better schools' within a 3-kilometer radius, many students, often living 50 to 60 kilometers away, are still afforded opportunities at popular schools. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to close schools located within just 5 kilometers, which raises additional questions about accessibility and quality of education.

Additionally, Pranandu expressed his discontent regarding the 6% quota reserved for children of university lecturers, labeling it an injustice to other employees directly associated with the Ministry of Education.

He cautioned that if these pressing issues are not addressed, there could be serious repercussions for professional unions to consider action, which might lead to further disruptions, including potential delays in the release of A-Level results and school calendars.
