 ඉන්දියාවේ Taranjot Resources සමාගමෙන් මෙරටට ගෙන්වන ලද පස්වන හදිසි ගල්අඟුරු තොගය නියමිත ප්‍රමිතියෙන් තොර වීම හේතුවෙන් පුත්තලම නැංගුරම් පොළේ සිට ආපසු හරවා යැවීමට ලංකා ගල්අඟුරු සමාගම පියවර ගෙන තිබේ.

මෙම ගල්අඟුරු තොගයේ අළු ප්‍රතිශතය සහ දහන තාප අගය නියමිත ප්‍රමිතීන්ට අනුකූල නොවන බව වරාය පරීක්ෂණ වාර්තාවලින් තහවුරු වී ඇත. පසුගිය නොවැම්බර් මාසයේ සිට ලක්විජය බලාගාරය සඳහා ගල්අඟුරු මිලදී ගැනීමේදී මතුව ඇති ගැටලු මාලාවට මෙය තවත් එක් අර්බුදයක් එක් කර තිබේ. හදිසි මිලදී ගැනීම් යටතේ ගෙන්වන ලද නැව් පහෙන් දෙකක්ම මෙලෙස අවම ප්‍රමිතිය සපුරා නොමැති බව වාර්තා වේ.

ජාතික විගණන කාර්යාලය නිකුත් කළ විශේෂ වාර්තාවකට අනුව, අදාළ සමාගම මීට පෙරද ප්‍රමිතියෙන් තොර ගල්අඟුරු සපයා ඇති බවට ඉතිහාසයක් පවතිද්දීත් මෙම හදිසි ටෙන්ඩරය ඔවුන්ට ලබා දී තිබීම විශේෂත්වයකි.

විදුලි බිඳවැටීම් වළක්වා ගැනීම සඳහා පසුගිය මාර්තු මාසයේදී අමාත්‍ය මණ්ඩල අනුමැතිය ඇතිව මෙම හදිසි මිලදී ගැනීම් සිදු කර තිබුණි.

වැඩබලන බලශක්ති අමාත්‍යාංශ ලේකම් ජී.එම්.ආර්.ඩී. අපොන්සු මහතා සඳහන් කළේ, ප්‍රතික්ෂේප කරන ලද මෙම ගල්අඟුරු තොගය වෙනුවට නව තොගයක් සැප්තැම්බර් මස මුල් සතියේදී ලබා දෙන ලෙස අදාළ සමාගමට උපදෙස් දී ඇති බවයි.

ඉදිරි කාලසීමාවේදී මුහුද රළු වීම හේතුවෙන් ගල්අඟුරු ගොඩබෑමේ කටයුතු දුෂ්කර විය හැකි බැවින් මෙම පියවර ගෙන ඇත.

මේ අතර, මීට පෙර ප්‍රමිතියෙන් තොර ගල්අඟුරු සැපයූ බවට චෝදනා ලැබූ Trident Chemphar සමාගමට අයත් තවත් ගල්අඟුරු නැවක් මේ වන විට පුත්තලම ජැටියේ ගොඩබෑමේ කටයුතු සිදු කරමින් පවතින බවද වාර්තා වේ.

Concerns Arise Over Poor Quality of Imported Coal Shipment in Sri Lanka

The Lanka Coal Company has taken decisive action to return the fifth shipment of coal from India's Taranjot Resources due to non-compliance with specified quality standards. The coal, which was set for unloading at the Puttalam Jetty, was found deficient in ash content and calorific value based on Port inspection reports.

This episode adds to the ongoing issues surrounding coal procurement for the Lakvijaya Power Plant, which has faced a series of challenges since November. Reports indicate that both ships under the emergency procurement arrangements failed to meet the minimum quality requirements.

A special report issued by the National Audit Office highlights that Taranjot Resources has a previous record of supplying substandard coal, raising questions about the integrity of the emergency tender awarded to them.

These emergency purchases were sanctioned by the Cabinet in March as a measure to prevent power outages. G.M.R.D. Aponso, the Secretary of the Ministry of Power, noted that the company has been instructed to deliver a new shipment during the first week of September to replace the rejected coal.

This precautionary step comes amid concerns that rough sea conditions in the coming days could complicate coal unloading operations.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that another ship belonging to Trident Chemphar, which has previously been accused of providing substandard coal, is currently engaged in operations at the Puttalam Jetty.
