සබරගමුව විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ වෛද්‍ය පීඨය සඳහා අභිනවයෙන් ඉදිකළ ගොඩනැගිලි සංකීර්ණය විවෘත කිරීමේ අවස්ථාවට දේශපාලන අධිකාරිය සම්බන්ධ කරගනිමින්, එය දේශපාලන ජයග්‍රහණයක් ලෙස හුවා දැක්වීමට උත්සාහ කිරීම පිළිබඳව එම පීඨයේ ශිෂ්‍ය සංගමය සිය දැඩි විරෝධය පළ කර සිටියි.

නිවේදනයක් නිකුත් කරමින් එම සංගමය පෙන්වා දෙන්නේ, වසර ගණනාවක් පුරා සිසුන් දියත් කළ අඛණ්ඩ අරගලවල ප්‍රතිඵලයක් ලෙස මෙම වෛද්‍ය පීඨය සහ එහි නව පහසුකම් දිනා ගැනීමට හැකි වූ බවයි.

2019 වසරේදී අවම පහසුකම් යටතේ ආරම්භ වූ මෙම පීඨයේ සායනික පුහුණු කටයුතු සඳහා අවශ්‍ය මහාචාර්ය ඒකකයක් නොමැති වීම හේතුවෙන් සිසුන් දැඩි දුෂ්කරතාවන්ට මුහුණ දුන් බවත්, ඒ වෙනුවෙන් හඬ නැගූ සිසුන් 21 දෙනෙකුට සිරගත වීමට පවා සිදු වූ බවත් එම නිවේදනයේ සඳහන් වේ.

සෞදි අරාබි රජයේ ණය ආධාර මත ඉදිකළ මෙම නව වෛද්‍ය පීඨ සංකීර්ණය සිසුන්ගේ අයිතියට පත් කිරීමේ උත්සවයට අග්‍රාමාත්‍යවරිය සහභාගී වීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් අදහස් දක්වන ශිෂ්‍ය සංගමය, වරින් වර බලයට පත් වූ රජයන් සිසුන්ගේ ඉල්ලීම් නොසලකා හැරියද, අවසානයේ මෙම ජයග්‍රහණය හිමි වූයේ ශිෂ්‍ය ව්‍යාපාරයේ කැපවීම මත බව අවධාරණය කරයි.

එබැවින්, සිසුන්ගේ ලේ, කඳුළු සහ කැපකිරීම් මත ගොඩනැගුණු මෙම සම්පත දේශපාලන වාසි තකා භාවිත කිරීම සහ එය දේශපාලන බලවේගවල උත්කර්ෂයට නැංවීම පිළිගත නොහැකි බව සබරගමුව විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ වෛද්‍ය පීඨ ශිෂ්‍ය සංගමය වැඩිදුරටත් ප්‍රකාශ කර සිටියි.

Student Union Condemns Political Exploitation of New Medical Faculty Opening at Sabaragamuwa University

The opening of a newly constructed building complex for the Medical Faculty at Sabaragamuwa University has sparked controversy, with the student union expressing strong opposition to attempts by the political authority to frame the event as a political achievement.

In a statement, the student union underscored that this new Medical Faculty, along with its facilities, is the result of years of persistent student protests. They highlighted that the initiative stemmed from continuous struggles undertaken by students over the years.

Since its inception in 2019, the faculty has faced significant challenges, including the absence of a necessary clinical training unit, which resulted in students experiencing severe hardships. The statement also pointed out that 21 students who raised their voices for the cause faced incarceration as a consequence.

The new medical complex was constructed with financial assistance from the Saudi Arabian government. While the student union noted the Prime Minister's participation in the ceremony to transfer ownership to the students, they stressed that successive governments have neglected the demands of students. Ultimately, they credited the achievement to the commitment of student activism.

Furthermore, the student union firmly stated that the facility, built on the sacrifices of students’ blood, tears, and dedication, should not be manipulated for political gain or leveraged to enhance the political power of any faction.
