 දේශීය අර්තා­පල් අල ගොවියා ආරක්ෂා කර ගැනීම සඳහා ඔවුන් ඉල්ලූ මිල­ටත් වඩා වැඩි මිලක් ලබා දෙමින් රජය අල මිල දී ගැනීම් සිදු කර ඇතැයි වෙළෙඳ, වාණිජ, ආහාර සුර­ක්ෂි­තතා සහ සමු­ප­කාර සංව­ර්ධන ඇමැති වසන්ත සම­ර­සිංහ මහතා පැව­සීය.

මාස නව­යක් පුරා අල ගැල­වීම් දේශී­යව සිදු කර­නවා. දේශී­යව අල නිෂ්පා­ද­න­යක් සිදු වන්නේ සිය­යට 15 යි. සිය­යට 80ක් අර්තා­පල් අල පිට­ර­ටින් ගේනවා. පිට­ර­ටින් අල ගෙන ඒමේදී පනවා තිබූ රුපි­යල් 50 බද්ද රුපි­යල් 80 දක්වා වැඩි කිරී­මක් අපි පසු­ගිය කාලයේ සිදු කළා. එහෙම කළේ දේශීය අල ගොවියා ආරක්ෂා කර ගැනීම සඳහා කියලා කියන්න ඕන. පිට­ර­ටින් අල ගෙන්වීම සිදු කළත් දේශීය අල­ව­ලට හොඳ ඉල්ලු­මක් තිබෙ­නවා. ඉන්දි­යා­වෙන්, චීනෙන්, පකි­ස්තා­න­යෙන් අල ගෙන එනවා. 

දේශීය අල රුපි­යල් 280 ටත් මිල දී ගැනී­මට සතොස කට­යුතු කළා. දේශීය අල ගොවියා ඉල්ලුවේ රුපි­යල් 220ත් 240ත් අතර සහ­තික මිලක්. නමුත් රුපි­යල් 280 ටත් රජය අල මිල දී ගත්තා.

අද දඹුල්ලේ මාර්කට් එකේ අල කිලෝව රුපි­යල් 310යි. සම­හර බීජ මිල, කෘෂි රසා­යන මිල, පොහොර මිල නිසා අල මිල වෙනස් වෙන්න පුළු­වන්. දේශීය අල­ව­ලට සාධා­රණ මිලක් අපි ලබා දී තිබෙ­නවා. අර්තා­පල් අල­වල මිල තවත් ගණන් වැඩි වුණොත් රජ­යක් විදි­හට අපි ඒ සඳහා මැදි­හත් වෙනවා.

Government Boosts Local Potato Prices to Support Farmers Amid Rising Imports

In a strategic move to protect local potato farmers, the government has exceeded the price requests made by these producers when purchasing potatoes, according to Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development, Wasantha Samarasinghe.

Over the past nine months, the purchasing of locally grown potatoes has been prioritized. Currently, local production accounts for only 15 percent of the total potato supply, with a staggering 80 percent being imported. Recently, the government increased the import tax on potatoes from 50 rupees to 80 rupees. This decision aims to safeguard local farmers while enabling them to benefit from a strong market demand for their produce, despite the ongoing imports from countries like India, China, and Pakistan.

Sathosa, the state-owned retail chain, has purchased local potatoes at 280 rupees per kilogram, substantially higher than the guaranteed price of 220 to 240 rupees that farmers had demanded.

Currently, in the Dambulla market, the price of a kilogram of potatoes stands at 310 rupees. Fluctuations in prices are attributed to variations in seed costs, agricultural chemicals, and fertilizer prices. The government has assured that it will continue to offer a reasonable price for local potatoes, and should there be any further increases in the price of imported potatoes, it is prepared to intervene effectively.
